As an Aircraft Design Engineer on the Advanced Systems team, you will develop integrated aircraft configurations and physical arrangements for new aircraft concepts. You will translate aircraft-level requirements and trade decisions into practical geometry, packaging, installations, and interfaces across structures, propulsion, systems, manufacturing, operations, and test. You will need to understand the aircraft at an architecture level to balance performance, weight, manufacturability, maintainability, and certification constraints as concepts mature. This position will be based onsite at our South Burlington, VT office location, our Raleigh, NC office. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid role, with monthly visits to South Burlington, VT for in person work.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Coordinate physical integration across structures, propulsion, systems, equipment, manufacturing, operations, and test
  • Define and maintain aircraft-level envelopes, zones, clearances, and physical interfaces
  • Evaluate access, routing, maintainability, manufacturability, ground handling, and servicing constraints
  • Conduct configuration and packaging trades; document assumptions, results, and recommendations
  • Maintain controlled aircraft master geometry and configuration data in 3DX
  • Mature selected configurations through preliminary design, prototype build, ground test, and flight test

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of aircraft, vehicle, or complex hardware design experience
  • Experience developing aircraft configurations, installations, packaging, or physical integration

  • Experience with 3DX or CATIA for large-assembly aircraft configuration and installation design
  • Experience with propulsion installation, nacelle or pylon interfaces, or complex systems packaging
  • Working knowledge of aircraft sizing, mass properties, outer-mold-line development, and performance trades
  • Experience with interface control, zone management, or configuration change control
  • Experience supporting prototype build, ground test, or flight test
  • Familiarity with electric aircraft, advanced propulsion, or emerging aircraft architectures
