
Exploration Geologist, Springer Site
Please note: We are recruiting for two (2) Exploration Geologists.
Reporting to the Senior Geologist and ultimately reporting to the Exploration Manager, US, this position is site-based at the Springer Mine & Mill located near Winnemucca, Nevada, USA.
The Exploration Geologist is a technical role responsible for the implementation and management of effective processes related to Blue Moon Metals near-mine, district, and regional exploration activities in Nevada, USA. The position will routinely travel to Blue Moon Metals tenements to complete field work, prospect assessments, supervise contractors and liaise with a variety of stakeholders involved in, supporting, and impacted by exploration programs. The position is essential in leading, guiding, and developing Exploration and Junior Geologist staff in day-to-day exploration, as well as project tasks. The role is responsible for geological interpretation, 3D modelling, new resource opportunities and support of resource estimation processes.
Key Responsibilities
Exploration
Assist with discovery focused exploration on specific projects within the project through:
- Increased geological understanding of the project and wider region
- Developing good exploration targets with rigorous, but cost-effective testing and evaluation
- Design and implement a variety of field exploration programs
- Communicating results, observations and recommendations to management
- Development and mentoring of all direct reports
- Ensure all operations are conducted in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner with due regard to local community concerns
- Expected to fully participate in geological mapping, drill core or chip logging, surface sampling, drill program execution, in addition to any supervisory responsibilities
Safety
- Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
- Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures
- Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
- Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.
- Active participation to the Health & Safety system development
People
- Supervise and review the work of direct reports and others and provide feedback to the Senior Geologist
- Overview, provide direction and act as a technical reference point and mentor for staff while ensuring work outputs are in line with exploration program.
- Be responsible for implementing and ongoing monitoring of performance and development review plans for all direct reports.
- Ensure personnel have the appropriate equipment, licenses, skills, induction and training to safely undertake their tasks.
- Encourage and facilitate effective and supportive communication between all team members and related department.
- Be an active team member of the exploration group and company as a whole but also be proactive in individual lateral and forward thinking.
Cost
- Ensure all costs incurred remain within budget and identify cost savings opportunities.
- Plan, approve and monitor any expenditure under your authority.
Key Performance Indicators
Safety
- Assist with constant improvements of the Company’s safety systems
- Achieve zero LTI’s
Production
- Complete as a minimum 5000m of exploration drilling for the financial year
- Maintain daily/weekly/monthly quality control and exploration deliverable targets
- Assist with preparation of weekly and monthly report by the due date
- Participate actively in staff development and training

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Geology or related tertiary qualification from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Masters of Science in Mineral Exploration is desirable
- Eligibility to work in the United States without the requirement for employer sponsorship now or at a future date
- Broad and varied experience in the geological field, including supervisory responsibilities
- Advanced use of various company & departmental systems
- Computer skills, i.e. proficient knowledge and constant self-improvement of all aspects of geological and reporting software is required.
- Relevant field geology, technical and academic experience
- Relevant people management experience
- Knowledge of the local exploration and mining regulations
- Good time management and organizational skills
Role Challenges
- Aid in the discovery of additional high-grade, economic ore deposits through systematic exploration and lateral thinking
- Create and maintain harmony and efficiency within the geological team, and the Company as a whole
- Keeping pace with technological advancements in exploration
- Manage, execute and report on results from exploration programs and geological projects
- Work in collaboration with the Senior Geologist to gather and interpret critical geological, geochemical and geophysical datasets to identify the most prospective targets that have the potential to yield a significant ore discovery.
