We're looking for a Tech Lead to join our ClarOps team. ClarOps is the team that makes Clara run. We build and operate the internal systems and services that power the day-to-day of the business. A big part of the road ahead is building the integration platform that lets the rest of the Clara ecosystem plug into this backend, including the new wave of tools other teams are building on top of AI. The roadmap is one of the most interesting at the company: re-architecting how Clara runs around AI, with deep cross-functional reach and real leverage on how we scale.

As a Tech Lead, you will be the senior technical voice for a multidisciplinary team within ClarOps: backend and frontend engineers working together on the same problems. You'll shape technical direction across the stack, set the quality standards the team works toward, and stay deep in the code. Career conversations and performance reviews belong to the Director, which lets you stay fully focused on the technical dimension.

We move fast and trust our engineers to own outcomes end-to-end. That means autonomy to make decisions, proactivity to surface problems before they become blockers, and the attitude to push initiatives across the finish line without waiting to be told what to do.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading technical direction and architecture for high-impact internal systems and services.

  • Setting the quality standards the team works toward — through code reviews, design reviews, and the bar you hold in your own work.

  • Building the integration platform and surfaces that let other teams across Clara, and AI agents, connect into the ClarOps backend.

  • Reviewing product specs from the technical lens — flagging feasibility gaps and spotting where AI tooling can close work that would otherwise take months.

  • Running the team's execution rhythm: sprint planning, standups, retros, and optimizing workflows using CI/CD and Github.

  • Elevating the team through pairing, mentorship, and sharing what you know.

  • Driving cross-team problem-solving and architectural discussions.

  • Applying AI tools to ship faster, automate workflows, and improve how the team works.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Must haves

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with proven role-specific execution as the senior technical voice on a team.

  • Solid backend foundation in Java. You don't need to have every API memorized, but you need the deep technical judgment to know when the code is right, when it's wrong, and why.

  • Comfortable leading a multidisciplinary team, holding sound technical opinions on frontend architecture (ideally with React ecosystems) and integration, even if backend is where you go deepest.

  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS), and event-driven systems.

  • A technical product mindset: you read the roadmap, not just the sprint, and join product conversations with proposals rather than just estimates.

  • Working proficiency in English and Spanish, with the ability to lead technical discussions across geographies.

  • High autonomy, proactivity, and an ownership mindset—you don't wait for direction, you spot what needs to happen and drive it.

  • Active experience or a genuine interest in leveraging AI tools to accelerate code delivery and automate day-to-day engineering workflows.

  • Adaptability to fast-changing, high-growth environments.

Nice to haves

  • Experience building or architecting systems that heavily leverage Databricks or Metabase for internal data surfaces.

  • Experience integrating workflow automation or orchestration using tools like N8N or Slack integrations.

  • Independent analytical skills using spreadsheets or SQL to analyze platform health and performance.

Clara’s Hybrid Policy

Claridians in a hybrid mode split their time between working from the office, talking to or visiting customers, or working from home. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for each individual and team.

We don't enforce a minimum number of days for most roles, but you're expected to spend time at the office organically, and be at the office most days during your ramp-up or when required by your leader.
