Senior Software Engineer, Pricing & Packaging

About Us

Since 2016, dbt Labs has been on a mission to help analysts create and disseminate organizational knowledge. dbt Labs pioneered the practice of analytics engineering, built the primary tool in the analytics engineering toolbox, and has been fortunate enough to see a fantastic community coalesce to help push the boundaries of the analytics engineering workflow. Today there are 30,000 companies using dbt every week, 100,000 dbt Community members, and over 4,100 dbt Cloud customers. You can learn more about our values here.

The cloud app group at dbt Labs builds and maintains dbt Cloud, our flagship product. We work across the stack — spanning scalable, distributed backend systems, modern and performant front end client code, robust APIs, auth, permissions, user and plan management, integrations, and more. We have a very exciting roadmap ahead of us, and are looking to add a driven Senior Software Engineer to the team!

We value a collaborative and highly iterative environment. We like to ship code — early and often. We listen to our customers — and adapt to change so we can best deliver value. As a Senior Engineer on the team you will prioritize and tackle problems as they arise. Project specifics may vary, but may include: developing features for customers, strengthening APIs, and implementing new systems end to end. You will also mentor and guide less senior engineers, fostering a learning environment that encourages innovation and technical excellence.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Design, build, and manage billing systems that are consistent, accurate, and dependable
  • Own and operate user plan management and Pricing & Packaging
  • Architect systems, making the right tradeoffs at the right time
  • Build and maintain backend services in Python and occasional React js frontend
  • Be seen as a technical leader both on the team and in the org
  • Champion industry best practices to help scale and maintain our product

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience as a software engineer
  • Minimum requirement of Bachelors degree in related field (computer science, computer engineering, etc.) OR Completed enrollment in engineering-related bootcamp

You are a good fit if you:

  • Are adaptable, able to navigate significant project direction or business objective changes
  • Have experience working with third party systems and vendors
  • Have experience working on a distributed team
  • Are proactive and want to ship great products

You'll have an edge if you:

  • Have prior Pricing and Packaging experience
  • Want to revolutionize the modern data stack and make a difference in the data ecosystem

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Salary
  • Equity Stake
  • Benefits (via Remote.com):
    • Unlimited vacation (and yes we use it!)
    • Paid Parental Leave
    • Wellness stipend
    • Home office stipend, and more!

What to expect in the hiring process:

  • An introductory call with a member of our Talent team
  • Hiring Manager interview
  • A coding interview conducted in a collaborative, pair programming format
  • A panel interview including multiple members of the Engineering Team
  • A final interview with a member of our Engineering Leadership Team

Who we are

At dbt Labs, we have developed strong opinions on how companies should practice analytics.

Specifically, we believe that:

  • Code-based transformations offer unmatched flexibility and transparency across various “multi-player” development to power everyone in the organization to collaborate on a common language
  • Data analysts should adopt similar practices and tools to software developers
  • Critical analytics infrastructure should be controlled by its users as open source software
  • Analytic code itself — not just analytics tools — will increasingly be open source

It turns out that a lot of other people believe this too! Today, there are 30,000 companies using dbt every week, 100,000 dbt Community members, and 4,100 companies paying for dbt Cloud. Our customers include JetBlue, Hubspot, Vodafone New Zealand, and Dunelm. dbt is synonymous with the practice of analytics engineering, defining an entire industry. We’re backed by top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Altimeter.
