VP, Finance & Strategy

We are at an inflection point as we scale towards $250M ARR and chart our course toward continued hyper-growth and potential IPO readiness. The VP of Finance & Strategy will be a pivotal force in leading and scaling the company's financial planning, forecasting, and strategic finance functions. This leader will serve as a thought partner to the CFO, CEO, and executive team, driving financial rigor, capital efficiency, and business insight during this critical next phase of the company’s evolution.

At dbt Labs, we are building a category-defining business in the analytics engineering space, and this role is instrumental in ensuring we sustain our trajectory with discipline, foresight, and operational excellence. This is more than a finance role—this is a mission-critical leadership position for a dynamic, high-growth SaaS company ready to take its next big leap.

Our ideal candidate is based in the United States with a preference for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area or greater New York City metro.

The impact you'll have:

As dbt Labs scales into a mature, high-performing enterprise, this role requires seasoned VP-level leadership to architect and institutionalize a best-in-class Strategic Finance and FP&A function. The company’s increasing complexity and accelerated growth demand a senior executive who can:

  • Lead at Scale – Build and mentor a world-class finance and strategy team, capable of supporting a growing, global SaaS organization.
  • Drive Operational and Financial Excellence – Elevate financial forecasting, capital allocation, and scenario planning to ensure optimized decision-making across the business.
  • Deliver IPO Readiness – Develop and operationalize a roadmap for potential and future public company readiness, including financial controls, regulatory compliance, and investor relations support.
  • Act as a True Business Partner – Provide actionable insights and strategic counsel to the CFO, CEO, and executive leadership team, influencing key business decisions and helping drive enterprise value creation.
  • Champion Automation and Systems – Streamline financial operations by leveraging best-in-class systems, analytics tools, and automation to scale efficiently.

What success looks like:

  • Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the CFO and CEO, helping shape company-wide strategy with data-driven insights.
  • Own long-range financial planning, ensuring alignment with company strategy, market dynamics, and investor expectations.
  • Build and develop a high-performing Finance & Strategy team, fostering a culture of accountability, development, and excellence.
  • Lead company-wide capital allocation strategy, focusing on capital efficiency and risk mitigation as the company scales.
  • Establish and execute the IPO-readiness roadmap, including the implementation of financial controls, regulatory readiness, and capital markets engagement.
  • Partner with Product, GTM, and Operations leaders to support pricing strategy, business model optimization, and unit economics.
  • Drive financial automation and continuous improvement across forecasting, reporting, and decision-support processes.
  • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors and executive leadership on critical financial and strategic matters.

Attributes of our ideal hire:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in Finance, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles.
  • Ability to roll-up your sleeves and dive into the weeds; comfortable operating at both 30,000 feet and ground level—willing to lead from the front and get into the details when necessary.
  • Significant experience in high-growth SaaS companies, ideally at or beyond the $500M ARR stage, with direct exposure to IPO processes or public company operations.
  • Exceptional financial modeling, scenario planning, and forecasting expertise, with a command of SaaS metrics and KPIs.
  • Proven leadership track record in building and scaling FP&A and Strategic Finance functions, coupled with operational rigor and people-first management skills.
  • A strategic operator who can balance big-picture thinking with strong execution.
  • History of influencing executive teams and Boards, with sound judgment and the ability to distill complexity into clear, actionable insights.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise software go-to-market strategies, customer acquisition models, and SaaS unit economics.
  • Experience with capital markets activities, including investor relations, equity raises, and IPO preparation.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and automation tools to enhance visibility, efficiency, and accuracy in reporting.

You’ll stand out if you have:

  • Successfully led financial planning at a company that completed a successful IPO.
  • Expertise in business model optimization and pricing strategy within SaaS.
  • Experience guiding companies through multiple stages of growth and transformation.
  • A proven ability to influence board-level conversations and shape investor narratives.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
