Program Manager, Responsibility

London, UK

Snapshot

The role of the Program Management Team is to organise and enable teams at Google DeepMind to be the best at what they do and to make fast-paced progress towards our mission. We continually pursue scalable and sustainable ways to optimize research, striving to ensure we cultivate an environment where people can be both highly collaborative and deeply creative, making responsible and pioneering research progress at pace. We build strong relationships with teams, bringing clarity to ambiguity and providing stability during change.

About us

Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.

The role

We are looking for a Program Manager to join our Responsibility team at Google DeepMind.

This role will provide hands-on Program Management support to the Responsibility Operations, Research and Engineering teams. You will work with teams at Google DeepMind to ensure that our work is conducted in line with ethics and safety best practices, ensuring the downstream impacts of Google DeepMind’s research and its applications are considered.

As a Program Manager, you will apply program management methodologies to multiple initiatives and projects, balancing progress, decision making and risks to deliver sustainable change and meet the program's objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategic Execution

  • Prioritize effectively and evaluate the success of programs against their aims and objectives, identifying and planning the strategic resource requirements needed to deliver against priorities.
  • Own a significant program budget, ensuring work is delivered within budget, and work with leadership and finance on forecasting spend and purchase order reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with leadership on cross-industry ‘horizon scanning’ to identify and maintain visibility of current and future external and internal testing requirements from regulators, government bodies, and wider industry standards to inform program strategy.
  • Lead the design and implementation of Google DeepMind’s key Responsibility programs, ensuring it meets our safety requirements, external commitments, and is optimized to scale with the growing needs of the business.

Project Delivery & Operations

  • Be highly organized, self-motivated, and drive process improvements, streamlining processes and simplifying execution by bringing tooling in and operational efficiencies.
  • Work on priority program’s end-to-end project planning and delivery, using your knowledge of project methodologies including tools and techniques such as dashboards, project plans, roadmaps, working group stand-ups and strategy retrospectives.
  • Be the trusted owner of the status of your priority programs. Clearly identify dependencies, decision logs, risks, and issues, and drive progress and visibility.
  • Oversee regular internal communication about the key programs across the organization to ensure visibility and buy-in.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Help build and lead a high-performing, collaborative, and cross-functional team, aligning resources against business priorities and managing escalations to leadership.
  • Help build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders—including regulators, government bodies, and testing partners—and influence action and outcomes without direct authority.
  • Manage cross-team dependencies across Google DeepMind, engaging with Safety, Responsibility, modeling, and SMEs to help identify high-priority focus areas.
  • Collaborate with Public Policy teams on business critical programs to help shape upcoming regulatory requirements and influence industry standards.

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
  • Knowledge or active interest of AI Ethics, AI Safety, Public Policy etc.

Deadline to apply: 6pm BST, Monday 4th August 2025
