Senior Designer - 6 months FTC

This role is part of our Personalised Content team. We create emotive yet conversion-focused ideas, products and campaigns at scale and speed. Our specialty is hyper-personalised, digital communications that change perceptions, shape new behaviours, and shift market share for our clients including eBay, Ancestry, Walmart, and more! The role is hybrid, based in Toronto.

JOB PURPOSE

You will act as a key creative leader on a global Google eCommerce team, shaping the visual identity and user experience of Google's flagship eCommerce platform. This role demands a mastery of digital design principles and the strategic vision to create beautiful, intuitive, and highly effective shopping experiences globally.

You will own the end-to-end visual design for major product launches, marketing campaigns, and platform enhancements. Your work directly influences how millions of customers discover and purchase Google hardware, from Pixel phones to Nest devices. You must be able to not only execute design flawlessly but also elevate the creative standard for a visual system that is both aspirational and accessible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Visual Execution: Own and lead the visual design for all critical Store pages—including product, category, and promotional campaigns—from initial concept to final production.
  • Design System Ownership: Deep understanding in evolving and maintain a scalable design system to ensure uncompromising visual consistency and brand alignment across the entire customer journey.
  • Translate Strategy to Design: Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Marketing, Copy, UX, Engineering) to transform strategic requirements and user insights into compelling, user-centered design solutions.
  • Design Handoff: Develop detailed visual specifications, hi-fidelity mockups, and prototypes that clearly communicate design intent for engineering implementation.
  • Champion Design Excellence: Present and articulate complex design concepts and rationale to stakeholders at all levels, incorporating feedback while consistently championing the highest standards of design quality.
  • Innovate: Continuously monitor industry and e-commerce trends to push the boundaries of the Google Store experience.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 7+ years of experience as a visual, web, or product designer in an agency or in-house setting.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual design skills, with a focus on e-commerce, web, mobile, and interaction design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Advanced prototyping skills using Figma or equivalent prototyping tools.
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to build presentations and confidently present to stakeholders at all levels in a professional and effective manner.
  • An open and curious mind in all areas of creative and design work and the ability to remain positive even in the most challenging of situations.
  • A solid point-of-view and a collaborative nature.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a very high level of attention to detail.
  • High level of ability to set goals and priorities in a constantly changing environment.
  • Possesses a high level of problem-solving ability in order to develop the solutions needed to address clients needs.
  • Follow through and ownership of getting a job completed on time even with tight deadlines.
  • Dedicates time to understand the requested task, or feedback and decisions being made. Isn’t afraid to ask questions to ensure clarity for informed decision making.
  • Communicates effectively one on one and in large groups.

PREFERRED DESIGN EXPERTISE

  • Mastery of design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite), with experience contributing to comprehensive design systems.
  • Expertise in user-centered design, responsive design, and accessibility standards.
  • A mobile-first design philosophy and a proven ability to create seamless, multi-device experiences.
  • The ability to translate complex product information and marketing messages into simple, intuitive, and beautiful visual narratives.
  • Experience designing for a major eCommerce or consumer-facing brand.
