Overview
mPower, a teammate to DLH, is looking for a Scientific Systems Integration Specialist that would be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining integrated systems that connect laboratory instruments, environmental monitoring devices, scientific data platforms, and enterprise research applications. This role ensures seamless data flow between hardware and software systems, supports laboratory automation initiatives, and drives digital transformation across research environments. The ideal candidate has strong experience in scientific computing, hardware/software integration, networking, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement system integrations between lab instruments (e.g., temperature monitors, spectrometers) and research platforms (LIMS, ELN, cloud storage).
- Configure and manage data acquisition devices such as Moxa serial-to-Ethernet gateways and DAQ systems.
- Integrate scientific and environmental monitoring devices (e.g., temperature sensors, freezers, spectrophotometers, centrifuges) with data acquisition systems and research databases.
- Collaborate with research staff, IT teams, and data scientists to map instrument data flows into analytical pipelines.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity and data integrity across endpoints.
- Participate in system validation, documentation, and change management processes.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in systems integration within a scientific, research, or laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring systems (e.g., Rees Scientific, Vaisala, or custom solutions).
- Hands-on experience with Moxa NPort or similar serial-Ethernet communication devices.
- Experienced in network infrastructure (switches, firewalls, VLANs), endpoint configuration, and layer 2 networking.
- Deep understanding of the OSI model.
- Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) and REST API interaction.
- Experience integrating lab devices using RS-232, USB, Ethernet, Modbus, or OPC UA protocols.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and hybrid deployments.
- Understanding of data security and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, NIST, GxP).

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
- CCNA or CCNP certified.
- Experience with SAS Viya, Jupyter, RStudio, or machine learning workflows.
- Familiarity with LIMS/ELN systems (LabWare, Benchling, Labguru, etc.).
- Experience in regulated environments such as NIH, FDA, or academic research centers.
Basic Compensation: $90,000 - $120,000 yearly salary

The final offer may vary based on skills, experience, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
