About the Position

Energy Exemplar develops and maintains datasets to help our clients analyse and forecast European power and gas markets.  We have a technical team whose role it is to collect the data and develop base datasets.  The role is to develop these base datasets into simulation-ready datasets within PLEXOS, ensuring they meet varying customer requirements and accurately portray the latest market outcomes and future trends.

This role is to calibrate, tune and continually improve the data quality and modelling methodologies used in the European datasets, focusing particularly on the natural gas and hydrogen markets. The role includes reviewing gas markets & fundamentals, gathering data and curating them into energy models for analysis. The successful candidate would have, and be enthusiastic to develop further, an understanding of energy market fundamental drivers (eg demand/supply balance of the gas market) and be able to apply this knowledge to produce PLEXOS-based models of the current and future European power and/or gas markets.  An understanding of the emerging economics of new low carbon energy storage technologies, such as utility-scale batteries and hydrogen production would be very useful.

The role has a heavy modelling focus. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the building of gas market models and gas systems models, using Energy Exemplar’s flagship PLEXOS software tool (the role does not require programming/software development).  They would also be expected to be able to document the changes made, and provide though leadership to support modelling developments and outcomes.  They will also interact with customers to respond to dataset-related questions, and take part in customer data product demonstrations and webinars.

This senior gas analyst works in close collaboration with a team of technical subject matter experts. The position is supported by strong training, coaching and mentoring and provides opportunity for professional growth and career advancement.
