Fairstead seeks a Senior Associate to join our Public Affairs team. The Public Affairs team works across all departments internally, exposing the candidate to all aspects of Fairstead’s vertically integrated business platform.

The ideal candidate is one that excels in an entrepreneurial, dynamic environment that celebrates individual initiative and contributions. The candidate will support Fairstead’s external presence through strong interpersonal and communications skills, demonstrating our leadership in the industry and driving success across our business lines. Successful candidates will be both “doers” and “strategic thinkers,” in addition to being “collaborators” and “independent contributors.”

Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build and maintain relationships with and respond to inquiries from community leaders, policymakers, media, industry organizations, and other key stakeholders.
    • Support strategic planning, logistics, and representation for Fairstead at industry events.
    • Ensure Fairstead’s leadership is well positioned for success externally through awards and thought leadership opportunity and advise internal team members on stakeholder engagement strategies as needed.
    • Support the oversight of government relations and public affairs third party contractor(s).
  • Media Relations
    • Create a strategic and communications media strategy.
    • Draft press releases, manage inquiries, and proactively secure awards/coverage/thought leadership opportunities in relevant outlets.
  • Owned-Content Strategy
    • Draft, schedule, and execute high-quality, well-written content for various channels, including social media (LinkedIn and Instagram), property newsletters, company collateral, and posts on the company website.
    • Support the direction and oversight of external graphic design firm, bringing a strong attention to detail and strategic mindset to best position Fairstead through our externally facing materials.
    • Maintain, update and catalog brand assets and ensure adherence to brand guidelines across all communication channels.
  • Support all business lines
    • Quickly gain an understanding of Fairstead’s existing portfolio and business goals and find ways to add value to their work through public affairs.
    • Support internal executive communications and partner with Human Resources on other initiatives requiring a strong corporate voice.
  • Strategic projects
    • Assist with other internal and external communications and public affairs projects and provide administrative support as needed. For example, this may include supporting the strategic execution of ribbon cuttings and community days.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, public policy, communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in public affairs, government affairs, and/or communications, a portion of which must have been in an investment, real estate, or affordable housing environment.
  • Strategic thinking skills, with an understanding of affordable housing and an ability to form relationships across a wide variety of stakeholders, ranging from residents, to elected officials, to investors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in managing corporate social media channels and handling media engagement.
  • Team oriented mindset and ability to work well across departments.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects concurrently, at a high level, and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies, providing strong judgment and guidance for internal decision making.
  • Ability to travel, as needed, to support property milestones or corporate public affairs goals.
  • Ability to manage third-party contractors, such as public affairs and graphic design firms.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic environment, with a passion for making a positive impact in communities.

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

 

Salary Range

$80,000 - $130,000 USD
