Engineering Manager, Fleet Ops

Description

Fleetio is looking for an Engineering Manager with a focus on the Fleet Ops area of our business. In this role, you'll lead our team in building features that enhance our customers' fleet operations workflows. This includes developing tools for asset lifecycle management, assignments, and fuel tracking. You will oversee the design, development, and delivery of high-quality solutions for our web platform.

You will influence the following areas: engineering leadership, technical strategy, code quality and performance, and mentorship. You will collaborate closely with fellow engineering leaders, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize features, and deliver high-quality releases. You will develop our engineering talent and grow their careers at Fleetio!

Who You Are

The ideal candidate for this role possesses a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, business acumen, and strategic vision. You have a solid background in building integrations and web application development with proficiency in Ruby-on-Rails and React development in a SaaS environment. Your leadership experience includes successfully managing and inspiring high-performing engineering teams, driving innovation, and fostering a collaborative work culture. You exhibit strong problem-solving skills, adaptability to a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, user-centric solutions. This role is part of the Engineering Leadership team and will report to the Director of Engineering.

Your Impact

  • Partner with product managers to drive outcomes in alignment with our business goals
  • Contribute to building product roadmap and OKRs with clear goals and outcomes
  • Manage project and initiatives against delivery timelines to ensure timely delivery
  • Lead the team to deliver quality solutions and outcomes for our customers and vendors
  • Collaborate with mobile counterparts to deliver a cohesive solution across the web and mobile platforms
  • Develop and mentor talent towards professional growth
  • Effectively manage your team’s performance via regular 1-on-1’s, performance reviews and constructive feedback
  • Work with Senior/Staff Engineers to enable you team to produce well-tested, maintainable, and performant code
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment that boosts the engagement and morale of your team
  • Review your teams' code as necessary to ensure quality, maintain consistency, and share knowledge
  • Advocate for and mentor the team on engineering best practices and development patterns
  • Partner with other engineering leaders to contribute to building a great engineering culture and practices
  • Communicate timely updates and progress on initiatives to relevant stakeholders
  • Recruit top engineering talent as needed for your team

Your Experience

  • 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams as an Engineering Manager or as a Tech Lead
  • Proven experience building React, Ruby-on-Rails applications (preferred) or similar frameworks
  • Prior experience building SaaS solutions in an engineering capacity (as an engineer or as a technical lead)
  • Prior experience engaging and building relationship with external vendors or business partners as necessary in an engineering capacity
  • Strong track record of leading engineers to deliver roadmap initiatives and achieve outcomes
  • Strong passion and track record of attracting, developing, and retaining engineers
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
