Financial Analyst (New Grad)
About the Company
General Matter enriches uranium.
We are designing, building, and operating the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services, here in the US.
In the process, we are restoring America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel to power AI, advanced manufacturing and critical industries our country relies on to remain competitive.
Fuel drives the cost of advanced reactor electricity production, and enrichment drives the cost of the fuel that advanced reactors consume. Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way.
Our mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable. We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society.
We were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms.
Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.
We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.
Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.
About This Role
General Matter is building the enrichment capacity America needs to produce its own nuclear fuel, and every dollar we spend getting there has to count. We are looking for a Financial Analyst to run the day-to-day finance operations that keep our engineers and operators moving: leading our accounts payable program, owning our procure-to-pay and spend platform, and building the reports that show leadership where the money is going and how it tracks against plan. You will also help build the budgets, cost models, and long-range projections behind the company’s biggest decisions, and at times embed directly with engineering teams during major development campaigns. If you want real ownership early in your career and a direct view into how a hard-tech company gets funded and built, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
- Lead the accounts payable program day to day. Process and approve vendor invoices, keep payments on time, and resolve issues with suppliers and internal teams.
- Own the procure-to-pay, card spend, and expense platform. Build the tools, workflows, and controls that keep spend visible and compliant as the company scales.
- Produce weekly reporting on spending patterns and budget-to-actuals, and flag variances to budget owners and leadership before they become problems.
- Build department and company spend projections for the annual budget and ongoing forecast cycles.
- Support strategic projects with cost modeling and analysis, including major capital programs, facility build-out, and long-range planning.
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to understand current and future needs, turn that into analysis leadership can act on, and embed with teams during major development campaigns.
Basic Qualifications
- Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
- Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 0–3 years of experience in finance, accounting, FP&A, or a related analytical role (internships included).
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience in a fast-paced engineering or highly technical environment, with a resourceful approach to delivering under tight timelines or budget constraints.
- Hands-on experience with an ERP, procure-to-pay, or spend management platform (e.g., Ramp, NetSuite, Oracle, SAP).
- Exposure to accounts payable, expense management, or month-end close processes.
- Advanced Excel skills, including building financial models, forecasts, and variance analysis from scratch.
- Ability to explain financial terms and tradeoffs clearly to engineers and other non-finance teams.
- Familiarity with SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools for automating reporting. CPA or CMA progress is a plus.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
- Permanent U.S. residence is required for this role.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
