Geotab is seeking a Senior Product Safety Program Specialist who will be responsible for maintaining and advancing the product integrity of Geotab’s suite of connected offerings. The Senior Product Safety Program Specialist operates with a high degree of autonomy, routinely engages with a wide variety of stakeholders to build and maintain internal and external relationships throughout the product life-cycle. This position is responsible for proactively identifying, assessing and mitigating product related risks throughout the product lifecycle working with SMEs to promote secured interoperability (standards advancement), and the prompt identification of hazards/risks while delivering creative business focussed solutions and ensuring robust risk management strategies are in place. What you'll do:
As the Senior Product Safety Program Specialist you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining processes to ensure the prompt identification of potential hazards and risks associated with Geotab’s products. This includes thinking creatively to develop and implement effective, business-focused solutions to product safety challenges and developing and implementing hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies. This includes staying abreast of the latest developments as they pertain to industry standards and best practices, identifying opportunities for standards advancement, and working to implement these within Geotab’s product suite.How you'll make an impact
- Stay abreast of evolving industry standards (e.g., SAE, ISO) and in-vehicle communication protocols (e.g., CAN, J1939, OBD-II).
- Actively participate in relevant industry groups and standard-setting organizations.
- Drive internal adoption of best practices for interoperability through training, workshops, and documentation.
- Collaborate with external partners and industry peers to influence and shape emerging standards.
- Promote and drive a culture of secured interoperability throughout the product lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment, and post-sales support).
- Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure adherence with industry standards and best practices.
- Promote a proactive approach to risk management and vulnerability mitigation.
- Identify potential hazards and operational risks associated with Geotab products and services.
- Perform systematic risk assessments using established methodologies (e.g., HAZOP).
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize adverse impacts.
- Lead periodic risk audits to assess the effectiveness of control measures.
- Track and monitor the progress of mitigation efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and effective resolution of issues.
- Communicate risk status and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and support to product development and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with support teams to address customer interoperability issues.
- Utilize AI-based tools and techniques to analyze product data and identify potential risks.
- Develop and implement machine learning models to predict and detect anomalies.
- Stay informed about emerging AI technologies and their applications in risk management.
- Recommend practical and cost-effective solutions to mitigate identified risks.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional team to serve as a Professional Bridge Between Engineering/Product Teams and Sales/Senior Executives. Internal Stakeholders include: engineering, product, sales, support and legal as well as key external stakeholders such as standards and regulatory bodies and industry groups (e.g, SAE, Auto-ISAC, and DoT)
- Effectively communicate technical concepts and risks to non-technical stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between technical and business teams.
- Provide technical expertise and support to sales and marketing efforts.
- Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in the automotive and telematics industries.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
- Participate in industry forums and conferences to stay ahead of the curve.
What you'll bring to the role
- 5-8 years of experience with vehicle technology and telematics-adjacent systems or systems engineering.
- The ability to delve into and promptly develop a robust understanding of the Geotab product suite.
- Extremely high accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
- Able to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities, deadlines and technology.
- Strong project management skills; able to identify needs, develop effective solutions and manage projects through to completion.
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and relationship management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with delivering presentations and training.
- Must stay relevant to technology and should have the flexibility to adapt to the growing technology and market demands.
- Scripting/programming and/or SQL, Python, Javascript is an asset.
- Must be comfortable with G-Suite.
- A strong practical understanding of connected systems and a proactive approach to risk mitigation are essential for success in this role.
- Detail-oriented, technically adept to effectively bridge the gap between theory and operational reality in the realm of connected vehicle product integrity.
