The Role

Huge is looking for a Freelance Senior Data Engineer with strong experience in data pipeline architecture, API integrations, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building scalable data pipelines that enable reliable data ingestion, transformation, and reporting across multiple data sources.

You will work closely with engineering, product, and analytics teams to ensure data systems are efficient, scalable, and aligned with business needs. This role requires hands-on experience with BigQuery, GCS, APIs, and data orchestration tools, as well as a strong foundation in SQL and data modeling.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design and build custom data ingestion pipelines from scratch.
• Develop scripts to extract data from APIs, including handling JWT authentication.
• Retrieve and process data from Google Cloud Storage (GCS) and load it into BigQuery.
• Implement and manage data orchestration workflows using tools like Apache Airflow or Cloud Functions.
• Fetch, parse, and transform auto-generated flat files (e.g., CSVs) on a scheduled basis.
• Clean, model, and unify datasets using advanced SQL and data modeling techniques.
• Standardize and integrate data from multiple sources (e.g., iOS and Android data).
• Connect data warehouses (BigQuery) to Looker Studio to enable reporting and dashboards.
• Ensure data accuracy, reliability, and performance across pipelines and reporting layers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data-driven decision-making.

What We’d Like to See

• Strong experience building data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes from scratch.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), especially BigQuery and GCS.
• Experience integrating with APIs, including authentication mechanisms like JWT.
• Proficiency with data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or Cloud Functions.
• Experience processing and transforming structured data (e.g., CSVs, flat files).
• Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling and data transformation.
• Experience working with data visualization tools, preferably Looker Studio.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to data quality and performance.
