Head of Storytelling
About Karya
Why was Karya on the cover of the Time Magazine , highlighted by Satya Nadella , and invited to present its work to Sundar Pichai one on one?
Because Karya is building the world’s first ethical data platform — bringing dignified digital work to underserved communities, while delivering high-quality datasets to the world’s leading AI companies.
Karya’s workers make nearly 20 times the Indian minimum wage and through our one-of-a-kind digital work platform, we have delivered over 50 million digital tasks and are poised to positively impact over 100 thousand workers by the end of the year. Now, as we expand globally and grow our partnerships with various stakeholders, we need to tell our story with clarity, integrity, and ambition.
About the Role
We’re hiring a Head of Storytelling to lead Karya’s brand narrative across audiences, channels, and markets. You will shape Karya’s external voice across funders, clients, governments, communities, and media, while also thinking ahead of emerging client or industry needs that we need to build strategies for. This is not just a communications role - it's a strategic leadership position that sits at the intersection of storytelling, corporate communication, launching products, and emerging market demands.
The post will report to Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (Manu Chopra), and will work closely with our leadership, fundraising, sales, tech, the Karya Institute and UI/UX product teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Karya’s storytelling strategy across six key audiences - governments, funders, clients, media, communities, and internal teams
- Support external communications for big moments — including product launches, new partnerships, global events, or high-stakes government engagements
- Work with sales and fundraising teams to craft tailored decks, pitches, and client-facing narratives
- Own and execute our social media and thought leadership strategy, especially on LinkedIn, newsletters, and other public-facing platforms
- Oversee storytelling processes — including content planning, collateral design direction, timelines, and delivery
- Lead and mentor a small team comprising of a storytelling lead and designers
- Manage and maintain Karya’s communications branding and guidelines
- Collaborate with PR partners to guide Karya’s media presence and respond to crisis communication needs, when required
- Uphold ethical and inclusive storytelling practices that reflect the dignity of our worker communities
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
- 7–10 years of experience in communications, storytelling, brand, or marketing roles
- Experience working with high-value stakeholders such as B2B clients, governments and international donors, leading the navigation of sensitive and impactful communications
- Strong background in corporate communications, with the ability to lead PR, media, and visibility strategies
- Experience in responding to high-stakes or nuanced communications contexts
- Experience with content creation processes, particularly for client- and industry-facing collateral
- Comfortable leading content strategies across social media, newsletters, and internal channels
- Experience driving product or platform-related communication — particularly in preparation for new launches or service rollouts
- Experience working closely with leadership and cross-functional teams and excellent cross-functional coordination and vendor/project management skills.
- Ability to translate complex ideas into actionable, user-friendly outputs.
- Strong project and team management skills, especially in fast-paced, ambiguous, or scaling environments
- Proactive mindset: Ability to anticipate storytelling needs, spot emerging opportunities, and work with Sales or other teams to design campaigns in advance
