
Architectural Designer

The Architectural Designer is a collaborative member of the design team that supports the design and development of architectural projects. This role works under the guidance of the Director of Design, Project Directors, primarily focused on expanding on and producing design concepts and the corresponding sketches, graphics, high-quality drawings, and presentations needed to communicate them to the internal team and to the client. May also assist with marketing material development. Architectural Designers contribute to all phases of design and help ensure the alignment of the project with client goals, code compliance, and design standards. They will discover and then apply a variety of information, working alone and in collaboration with other to find the right balance for the client, site, budget, schedule, etc.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the development of conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
- Create drawings, 3D models, renderings, and presentation materials using SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Powerpoint, and other design and presentation software.
- Assist with research and application of building codes, zoning laws, and other regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal design reviews and coordination meetings.
- Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and other team members as directed.
- Ensure that design work meets project goals, timelines, and technical standards.
- Contribute to design innovation and sustainability strategies when applicable.
- Support site analysis and feasibility studies for potential projects.
- Perform redlines and revisions under supervision.
- Assist with construction administration activities such as submittal reviews and RFI responses.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have an appreciation for the design-build process, embracing the understanding of construction practicalities as a necessary complement to architectural design.
- Knowledge of commercial construction and their associated building codes and standards.
- Should be a self-starter, able to take direction and run with it.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong graphic and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, including to nonprofessionals, the ideas and concepts guiding decisions.
- Strong understanding, curiosity, and appreciation of building systems, construction methods, and architectural detailing.
- Understanding that design and construction is a team sport requiring collaboration.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an architectural or design firm is preferred.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an NAAB accredited program is preferred.
- On path to architectural licensure is preferred.
