Technical Specialist - Lighting Systems 

 As a Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and executing engineering concepts for automotive lighting systems to support groundbreaking products and technologies from the initial phases of programs. This role involves researching innovative solutions to ensure design intent is achieved while balancing function, form, and cost constraints. Additionally, you will create functional concepts for prototypes and early validation and coordinate design reviews with design engineers to ensure both current and future products meet Lucid Lighting’s internal requirements and deliverables in a timely manner. 

As a Technical Specialist, you will lead technical reviews alongside the design studio, engineering packaging, and attributes teams. The ideal candidate must demonstrate exceptional engineering and organizational skills, with a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment. Additionally, the candidate should be adept at supporting fellow engineers, facilitating their success in design efforts, and contributing to the development of optimal engineering solutions for the program.

Role:

  • Participate in early concept development with advanced engineering team for vehicle product definition and feasibility. 
  • Collaborate with innovative ideas to realize design intend ideas, focus on function, form, and cost constraints.  
  • Collaborate with cross functional team to find best balance for optomechanical devices integration when it comes to assembly, appearance, fit and finish.  
  • Create engineering concept feasibility for Lucid internal in-house projects.  
  • Develop 3D models in catia V5, catia V6 to support in-house development project, and RFQ predevelopment. 
  • Mentor design engineers on how to optimize optomechanical components integration. 
  • Coordinate and lead design reviews with design engineers throughout program milestones  
  • Validate and sign off lighting optomechanical components and products prior to design release.  
  • Collaborate with design engineers in Engineering Statement of Work, DFMEA and other technical documents creation. 
  • Collaborate with Design Engineers during DVP&R creation.  
  • Lead and manage product development with key suppliers or Lucid owned components. 
  • Support design engineers with DFM, Moldflow, tooling reviews  
  • Participate in vehicle packaging and lay out strategy. 
  • Participate in the iterative process with Lucid design/studio team to deliver optimal balance for craftsmanship, function, fit, shape, and cost.  
  • Perform benchmark studies to find alternative solutions to industrialize, integrate optomechanical products.  
  • Implement best practices where possible following Lucid innovative and flexible mindset, provide training to colleagues when required.  
  • Create system requirements and specifications to achieve best in class optomechanical systems. 
  • Interface with Lucid manufacturing, dimensional team to develop components that are optimized for the product environment.  
  • Perform evaluation on optomechanical devices to guarantee legal compliance for different markets.  
  • Root-cause analysis, investigate and resolve issues encountered in current series production, and new products. 
  • Interpret CAE, CFD, Moldflow data to optimize product design. Work together with design engineers to integrate improvements. 
  • Propose tooling approach to solve complex injection molding components feasibility.  
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, trends, and regulatory changes in optomechanical, lighting, sensing, vision related domains.  
  • Be subject matter expert for optomechanical systems, meaning you’ll be responsible for making decision on how to executive part integration, define best technology to be used in given devices and approve interfaces with other systems. 
  • Manage parts from concept throughout prototyping phase, proof of concept, validation until start of production 

 

Qualifications:

  • Ten plus years of engineering experience in automotive or consumer electronics sector 
  • Proven experience in design/development engineering in optomechanical components with high precision. 
  • Knowledge of plastics, composites, sheet metal 
  • Knowledge in electrical and electronics  
  • Knowledge in optical components manufacturing processes 
  • Knowledge of injection molding and plastic bonding processes 
  • Proven experience with CATIA V5 and V6 (NX/Unigraphics is acceptable) 
  • Proven experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) 
  • Excellent knowledge with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) 
  • Proven Knowledge in GD&T 
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers, and assembly plant during the launch 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications  
  • Capable to interpret or create optical simulation reports  
  • Proven experience creating complex Optomechanical integrations and be able to model to an excellent standard  
  • Good knowledge in thermoplastics, thermoset resin materials and class A manufacturing technologies  
  • Proven knowledge in cutting edge technology for cost effective solutions for the domain  
  • Well-developed team working and interpersonal skills 
  • Mentoring skills 
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environment  
  • Detail oriented personality with determined problem-solving attitude using engineering first principles approach 
  • Hands on practical experience in prototype assembly and production assembly with willingness to assemble our own parts  

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Previous experience in State-of-the-art Automotive lighting systems or Vision Systems for consumer electronics 
  • Previous experience in Automotive OEM or Tier 1 experience is a plus 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, physics or related field of study 
  • Master’s degree in engineering is a plus
