Sr. Systems Engineer, Advanced Powertrain Technology
The Drive Unit Systems Engineering team at Lucid Motors is currently seeking a Systems Modeling Engineer. The team works cross-functionally to define the drive unit product requirements, strengthen fundamental understanding of the drive unit functions and performance, and evaluate interactions between both sub-systems in the drive unit and within the full vehicle context. The team engages with other vehicle system owners to develop requirements, ensure alignment in design philosophy, drive best-in-class vehicle attributes, and enhance user experience. It also supports drive unit strategic technology planning and road map development.
The Systems Modeling Engineer will participate and support in all these activities by building and utilizing multi-domain models of the drive unit system to predict, simulate, and evaluate how it performs its functions.
Role:
- Responsible for modeling, characterization, and analysis of one or more drive unit attributes, features, and sub-systems.
- Drive hardware and software, product and requirements definition across different systems.
- Develop tools and models to perform functional analysis, detail trade studies and interface definition studies.
- Analyze field usage, test, and simulation data to identify opportunities for product improvement
- Support creation and execution of validation and characterization test campaigns
- Work closely with cross-functional teams in the Drive Unit, Battery and HVAC organizations for vehicle optimization efforts.
- Develop broad systems engineering expertise and deep product knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of fundamental physics in one or more of the following areas: power electronics, electromagnetics, motor controls, heat transfer, fluid mechanics
- Understanding of how drive unit design choices impact vehicle attributes.
- Capability to analyze data and generate insights. Past work with powertrain testing and/or simulation data analysis beneficial.
- Experience or knowledge of system/component modeling from past work or academia (for example: heat exchangers, permanent magnet motors, MOSFETs, etc...)
- Expert in MATLAB/Simulink
- Ability to work cross functionally across multiple disciplines.
- Excellent communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments.
- 1-3 years of experience with powertrain product development, powertrain controls, testing in automotive, aviation, aerospace, or similar industry
Preferred:
- Prior experience testing or modelling of EV systems preferred.
- Prior experience demonstrating ability to generate key take-aways from large datasets preferred
- (Bonus) Experience with requirements management tools (e.g. JAMA, DOORS, etc.)
- (Bonus) Experience in MBSE/SysML methods and tools (e.g. Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, Rational Rhapsody, etc.)
Education
- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering
Base Pay Range (Annual)
$140,000 - $192,500 USD
