
Repair Technician - (2nd Shift, Paint)
As a Paint Repair Technician, you will play a critical role in the production of our world-class vehicles and electric powertrains. Your primary responsibility will be to perform high-quality paint repairs and refinishing on vehicle surfaces to meet stringent cosmetic and durability standards. This hands-on role requires a deep understanding of automotive paint systems, surface preparation, and application techniques. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in Paint, Body-in-White, General Assembly, and Powertrain to ensure flawless finishes and continuous process improvements.
You Will:
· Perform manual paint repairs on production vehicles, including spot repairs, panel refinishing, and full surface touch-ups.
· Conduct surface preparation such as sanding, masking, priming, and cleaning to ensure optimal paint adhesion and finish quality.
· Operate and maintain HVLP spray guns, paint booths, and other specialized tools and equipment.
· Inspect painted surfaces for defects such as runs, sags, orange peel, dirt, or color mismatch, and correct them using appropriate techniques.
· Apply basecoat, clearcoat, and single-stage paints with precision and consistency.
· Follow standardized work instructions and safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
· Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to identify root causes of paint defects and implement corrective actions.
· Maintain accurate records of repairs, materials used, and process deviations.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting enhancements to tools, materials, and processes.
· Escalate process abnormalities or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate support teams.
You Bring:
· Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in automotive paint application and repair.
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
· Proficient in color matching, blending, and refinishing techniques.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship.
· Ability to follow detailed process steps repetitively while maintaining quality.
· Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive motions.
· Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in automotive bodywork and metal finishing.
· Familiarity with OEM paint systems and repair standards.
· Knowledge of paint chemistry, curing processes, and environmental controls.
· Previous experience in a high-volume automotive manufacturing plant.
· Certification in I-CAR, ASE, or similar automotive refinishing programs is a plus.
