POSITION SUMMARY:

The Software Engineer Manager – Billing Services is a skilled, hands-on, and self-motivated Engineering Manager to lead a global software development team in our billing domain. This role is responsible for driving the design, development, and delivery of scalable billing solutions, while fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

ABOUT BILLING TEAM

  • The Billing team at Natera plays a critical role in ensuring the company’s financial operations run smoothly. We support a complex ecosystem of software systems and serverless workflows that help facilitate our revenue processes.

  • Over the years, we’ve developed an intricate choreography of services. Currently, we are focused on improving Billing workflows and redesigning interservice communication patterns to enhance resilience and throughput.

  • Our goal is to reduce complexity, consolidate systems/data, and build a streamlined solution utilizing serverless workflows, moving towards a fully automated processing pipeline with minimal human intervention.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technical 

    • Participating in development alongside the team, including coding, reviewing, and debugging, while ensuring that technical decisions align with business objectives

    • Provide technical leadership to US-based and international software development engineers, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery of high-quality software.

  • Manage 

    • Work closely with the offshore Project Managers on various projects to balance team workload across projects, ensuring efficiency in resource allocation.

    • Identify project objectives, the scope of software deliverables, external dependencies, resources, risks, and framework for the project activities.

    • Facilitate collaboration and resolve issues, evaluate project performance, bring projects to delivery, and act on the lessons learned

  • Nurture 

    • Conduct regular performance evaluations for team members, providing feedback to the offshores Project Managers to ensure accountability.

    • Guide team members’ career development, nurturing both their technical and interpersonal skills.

    • Provide individual performance feedback focused on recognition of achievement and opportunities for growth

    • Conduct 1:1s, performance evaluations, and more

  • Collaborate 

    • Focus on building transparent and effective communication channels that align with business objectives

    • Oversee collaboration among cross-functional development teams, software quality engineers, and product managers

  • Effect change 

    • Drive continuous improvement by providing feedback to management and initiating changes that optimize development processes, emphasizing quality, innovation, and efficient product delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of proven track record of building and managing high performance engineering teams

  • 5+ years of experience in software development using AWS Serverless Architecture, Node JS, or similar programming languages.

  • Experience in and aptitude for leading remote teams

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Passion for people management and mentorship

  • Experience in health-care billing a strong plus

  • Proven record of managing high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on driving impactful results.

  • Willingness and ability to lead and collaborate with global teams across multiple time zones.

  • Focus on recruiting, developing, and retaining strong, diverse, and inclusive talent.

  • Strong experience in mentoring developers, fostering career growth, and providing technical and professional guidance.

  • Expertise in Agile methodologies, with a focus on delivering high-quality, iterative solutions.

  • Deep understanding of building highly scalable, cloud-native distributed systems.

  • Hands-on experience with modern coding, design, and architectural patterns, including microservices, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and serverless architectures.

  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate effectively with direct reports, peers, stakeholders, and leadership.

  • Proactive problem-solving approach, demonstrating initiative in addressing issues and driving creative, effective solutions.

  • Strong work ethic, ability to perform under pressure, and maintain a positive, solution-focused attitude.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines is highly desirable.

  • Experience developing software in a regulated environment (e.g., healthcare, finance) is a plus.

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
