Senior Director / Director of Product Management, Oncology Innovations

POSITION SUMMARY: Natera is seeking an experienced Director/Senior Director of Product Management to lead the discovery and early research of new, innovative products and services for our oncology portfolio.  Natera’s growth as a diagnostic provider in oncology has been driven by the flagship Signatera test, which is leading the market adoption of MRD for clinical use in solid tumors.  We have added our Altera comprehensive genomic profiling test and Empower hereditary cancer test to complement Signatera and are building a growing list of related products to fill out our portfolio and advance precision medicine.  This new position on our Product team will drive the evolution of the next generation of innovative solutions to address the unmet needs of our clinical and biopharma customers in order to protect and grow our leadership position in oncology diagnostics.  This person will have a deep understanding of the market and will partner with our Research team to propose new product concepts, evaluate and structure these concepts into thoughtful business plans and prioritize the concepts for research evaluation.  They will provide early product definition, technical product leadership and strategic vision for the Natera long-term portfolio of products encompassing cutting edge molecular methods and transformational AI/ML analysis methods for high-dimensional multimodal data.  This leader will mature new products through research and proof-of-concept and collaborate with the broader Product team to transition these products to development and eventual launch.

The successful candidate will combine strategic vision and scientific rigor with strong communication and leadership skills.  They must be an experienced, technically strong, results-oriented team player able to provide out-of-the-box and visionary thinking to a dynamic executive team. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather appropriate internal and external data to define the unmet customer need, craft product concepts and propose target product profiles

  • Coordinate, influence, and collaborate with a cross-functional team, including Molecular Biology R&D, Data Science R&D, Medical, Business Development and Marketing to ideate and evaluate new product concepts.

  • Conduct VOC interviews, market research, and competitive analysis as a means to test and prioritize product concepts and features

  • Lead the team in building long-term business plans, with unit economics, ROI, and NPV outputs, to assess the value of new products and ventures.

  • Evaluate model sensitivities and gather appropriate data to pressure-test these key assumptions.

  • Make investment and prioritization recommendations on the basis of rigorous business analysis and good market research.

  • Understand the competition and be able to articulate how our pipeline of products is differentiated and will win in the marketplace.

  • Form and lead cross-functional research teams as required to drive new projects

  • Excel in the concept phase of product development: provide thought leadership and critical analytical thinking on new product/business ideas to test the viability of target product profiles (TPPs)

  • Evaluate, prioritize, and communicate the roadmap for new pipeline products and timelines through the company.

  • Establish and lead due diligence process for evaluation of outsourced products or products for acquisition

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong leader, with proven ability to transform innovative ideas into impactful products

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a physical or life science, statistics or engineering discipline. PhD or MBA preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of product management with at least (10+) years overall experience with product management, product development, marketing and/or strategy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience developing and commercializing cancer diagnostics, medical devices, and/or medical software

  • Experience with all parts of the product lifecycle with emphasis on excellence in the concept and feasibility phases

  • Prior experience developing and managing regulated products for clinical use and research use

  • Preferred: experience developing software products based on genomic, bioinformatic, or clinical data sets

  • “Hands-on”, likes to dive deep and solve problems, detail-oriented

  • Energy, enthusiasm, and sense of urgency

  • Risk taker, entrepreneurial and competitive in nature

  • Self-starter, capability to identify and resolve problems independently

 

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
