Director, Media Finance

Summary / Objective

This position works closely with the VP of Finance and NFL Media personnel in analyzing and driving financial performance of the NFL Media business units including Live Games, Licensing, Network Affiliate, Ad Sales, and Direct to Consumer.  A successful candidate must have at least 10 years of finance & accounting experience, solid analytical & project management abilities, a self-starter, strong communication, be comfortable dealing with senior members of the League, be able to effectively lead a team, and have excellent creative thinking skills.

Description

  • Oversee financial management to key revenue generating businesses of the League including Live Games, Licensing, Affiliate distribution of NFL Network and RedZone, Ad Sales, and Direct to Consumer.
  • Support the NFL Media business units in all corporate finance matters including managing the annual budget, quarterly and real-time forecasts, and assessing the performance of various line of businesses via financial and other metrics.
  • Proactively provide senior media personnel with trending analyses and projections to assist them in effectively operating within their budgets and improve operating results. Examples include variance and proforma analyses, internal and external comps, various KPI’s, risk/opportunity assessments, and other expense analysis including headcount and cost-out opportunities.
  • Managing the quarterly accounting process, which includes ensuring proper accounting treatment of transactions, approving journal entries and account reconciliations, and explaining P&L and Cash variances to budget, forecast, and prior year.
  • Recommend efficiencies / improvements to existing financial processes, which includes how we better leverage our financial systems and tools to improve financial reporting and analysis across the business.
  • Supervise and provide professional guidance and leadership to a finance business manager and potentially other seasonal/part-time staff as needed.
  • Review and/or provide key financial terms to contracts entered into by NFL Media, as well as ensure contractual commitments and reporting requirements are met once the contract is in place.
  • Assist in ensuring accounting procedures and guidelines are properly applied (e.g. account receivable billings, invoice coding and authorization, expense reimbursements, etc.).
  • Ensuring each business unit adheres to key League financial policies and procedures surrounding contracts, engaging in business with our partners, customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Special projects and ad hoc requests from the media personnel as needed.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Minimum of BA/BS degree from an accredited university in accounting or finance
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience in Finance or Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 years of management experience; Supervisory responsibilities include managing a Finance Manager. If required, there will be circumstances that also may require the management of seasonal/part-time staff at the Finance Coordinator level.
  • Sports and Entertainment Finance experience preferred

Other Key Attributes / Characteristics

  • Advanced in MS Office, primarily with Excel. Experienced with accounting and/or planning systems such as Oracle, Vena, etc.

Expected Hours of Work

  • NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week.

Salary / Pay Range

  • This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries or hourly rates that the NFL believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted job in the location(s) specified. The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials, or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.

Salary

$140,000 - $180,000 USD
