Role
Octus, a rapidly growing tech-powered financial news and data company and leader in leveraged finance and distressed debt news and analysis, is seeking highly motivated reporters to join us in covering primary leveraged finance and deal origination. An ideal candidate would be highly curious, self motivated and possess outstanding interpersonal skills. They should have some prior experience in journalism, ideally covering debt capital markets and debt origination.
This is a hybrid position (3 days in office per week), based in our NYC office.
Responsibilities
- Help expand Octus’ coverage of primary leveraged finance and deal origination
- Develop and maintain rapport with key M&A banking and leveraged loan investor contacts
- Identify and report on new trends and developments in M&A, LBO and leveraged finance/private credit markets
- Collaborate with financial and legal analysts, and other reporters across multiple sectors
Requirements
- Basic understanding and experience writing about M&A, debt capital markets, and preferably leveraged finance and LBOs
- A career-driven interest in learning and writing about deal valuations, credit quality and, its intersection with private equity and LP formation
- Excellent interpersonal skills; self motivated; ability to multitask and work in a fast paced newsroom environment
- Ability to write clearly and concisely under deadline pressure and derive trends from issuance, pricing and other market patterns.
- Passion for obtaining scoops through outreach and cultivation of sources among highly sophisticated market participants to obtain scoops in the market.
- The candidate must be collaborative and enjoy working in a multicultural team environment.

As a result, compensation may vary within and across similar roles and positions. Please note that the salary range information below is a good faith estimate for this position and actual compensation for any individual may fall outside this range if warranted by the circumstances applicable to that individual. If we identify a role that would be suitable for a broader range of skills and experience such that we would consider hiring at multiple levels then the range listed below may reflect that breadth.
The salary range estimate for this position is $90,000 - $100,000. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
The actual compensation will be at Octus’ sole discretion and will be determined by the aforementioned and other relevant factors.
