
Senior Hardware Test Engineer - Signal & Sensors Quality

We are looking for a Senior Test Engineer to join our San Diego team. In this role, you will lead and contribute to hardware validation projects focused on Oura Ring sensors. You’ll be part of our cutting-edge wearable sensor technology exploration team, developing complete test solutions for both functional and parametric validation. This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with the latest sensor technologies while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including Science, Hardware Engineering, and Embedded Software Engineering.
This is an on-site position based in San Diego, CA.
What you will do:
- Lead and execute sensor validation cycles for Oura’s next-generation hardware products, ensuring signal quality across all sensor domains.
- Plan, design, and develop test methods and tools to evaluate physical and physiological signals (e.g., motion, optical, electrical, thermal).
- Analyze sensor data and performance, applying advanced data analysis and developing new methods to extract actionable insights.
- Conduct hands-on testing in both lab and real-world field environments, identifying issues and driving root cause investigations.
- Deliver clear, data-driven reports and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders, influencing hardware, algorithms, and product design decisions.
- Continuously improve test capabilities and processes, mentoring colleagues and helping to scale sensor validation at the San Diego site.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in sensor testing and validation within consumer electronics
- Proficiency in Python for test development and data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with analog and digital signal analysis and processing.
- Solid understanding of electronics and embedded systems.
- Innovative mindset with a strong interest in the latest sensor technologies.
- Self-driven and diligent, with the ability to work independently and present results confidently to stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration skills, able to work effectively across disciplines and time zones.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and an analytical approach to technical challenges.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of human physiology and physiological signals.
- Experience with test automation frameworks and tools.
- Background in hardware testing and debugging, including software interfaces.
- Familiarity with regulatory testing processes for medical or consumer devices.
Work Model:
- Location: On-site in San Diego, CA.
- Collaboration with global hardware, firmware, test engineering, and manufacturing teams.
- Occasional travel may be required (to suppliers or Finland).

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
