JD - Head of Payments Growth and Prepaid Business

Job Purpose:

Head the Payments growth, adoption and P&L for multiple businesses and create impact at population scale. This role is part of the leadership team of the Payments business at PhonePe and is expected to contribute significantly to the PhonePe’s strategic objectives.

Responsibilities: 

  • Head categories across all payment instruments
    • Everything UPI including Bank Accounts, Credit (Cards & Lines), AutoPay, International
    • Credit Distribution (Cards, EMI, lines)
    • Prepaid Instruments (Wallet, NCMC, Gift Cards)
  • Ownership of P & L, market share, growth, adoption and business metrics (AOPs, et al) 
  • Establish and manage partnerships with banks, payment networks (NPCI, Visa, MasterCard) and other regulatory and financial institutions at leadership levels
  • Establish and manage collaborations with Merchants (Online + Physical) across various industries to be able to drive acceptance and adoption of PhonePe Payments Instruments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams- design, data science, product, engineering, marketing, finance to lead category specific initiatives
  • Lead a multi-layered team of business leaders & category managers to drive business objectives
  • Ownership of all vertical related marketing activities and user communication
  • Manage all aspects of product marketing for the category including: GTM strategy, new product launch, portfolio marketing strategy and execution, positioning, messaging, pricing, competitive research and internal communication
  • Manage regulatory and compliance interaction with regulatory entities & internal teams - fully own the business & operational compliance of the PPI license
  • Manage business operations with strong oversight and focus on automation and process excellence

Preferred qualifications and ideal background:

  • An entrepreneurial drive to open up new avenues for opportunities of growth and strong execution rigour to follow it up. Someone who loves to go through the ‘idea-> pilot -> measure -> scale’ loop
  • A good mix of intuition & analytical decision making. Ability to balance long-term vision with short- and medium-term goals
  • Prior experience of working with and leading highly skilled cross- functional teams
  • 12+ years of experience in the Payments/Banking domain with preferably Consumer Tech exposure driving growth/category/P & L at scale
  • MBA from a Tier 1 institute
  • Thrive at building relationships, influencing cross-functional teams and leadership teams on strategic execution of key projects
  • Ability to forge and nurture leadership relationships with external stakeholders (CXOs)
  • Be able to synthesize data with superior attention to detail and provide guidance around policy & process improvements - should be able to define frameworks for the teams to follow
