MTS - Fleet Insights Team
We’re in an unbelievably exciting area of tech and are fundamentally reshaping the data storage industry. Here, you lead with innovative thinking, grow along with us, and join the smartest team in the industry.
This type of work—work that changes the world—is what the tech industry was founded on. So, if you're ready to seize the endless opportunities and leave your mark, come join us.
Fleet Insights Team
The Fleet Insights team operates at the intersection of software engineering, data engineering, and cloud-scale observability. We dig deep into customer-impacting issues, design resilient systems to detect and classify them, and build intelligent data pipelines that transform how Pure understands and supports its global fleet.
As an MTS engineer, you'll be both a systems builder and a data problem solver—designing large-scale services, leading technical direction, and building tools that extract actionable insights from telemetry and logs. This is a high-leverage role for someone who wants to build at scale, solve tough data problems, and make a measurable difference to Pure’s customers.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING...
- Architect and implement backend services for ingesting, extracting, and classifying telemetry logs at scale (e.g., TALES platform).
- Design data pipelines to process and analyze structured and unstructured logs, enabling real-time fleet intelligence and RCA automation.
- Build scalable distributed systems using technologies like Redis, SQS, RDS, and S3 to support fault-tolerant, stateless services.
- Develop and deploy microservices on cloud-native platforms (e.g., AWS, Pure1Build) using containerized infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Establish and maintain robust observability—define SLOs, build health checks, monitor job queues, and implement alerting using tools like Datadog and PagerDuty.
- Create and optimize data models for failure classification, metrics aggregation, and long-term log storage using SQL-based stores (PostgreSQL, Snowflake).
- Mentor junior engineers, drive technical reviews, and write high-quality design docs that guide the team’s architecture decisions.
- Collaborate closely with platform, support, and product teams to align on service APIs, failure workflows, and operational ownership.
- Continuously improve system reliability, cost-efficiency, and developer experience through refactoring, automation, and design iteration.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering and/or data engineering, building and operating backend services in Python, Go, or Java.
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals, service-oriented architecture, and asynchronous workflows.
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines or log analytics systems using cloud-native tools (e.g., AWS Glue, Lambda, S3, Athena, Kafka, or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of database systems—SQL and NoSQL—combined with strong data modeling and performance optimization skills.
- Cloud infrastructure expertise, ideally in AWS, including IAM, cost-aware architecture, and autoscaling principles.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, microservices lifecycle management, and containerization with Docker/Kubernetes.
- Demonstrated ability to design and lead complex, cross-functional technical initiatives with minimal oversight.
- Excellent communication skills—able to explain design trade-offs, simplify complex systems, and influence across teams.
- A strong mentoring mindset and a willingness to help level-up peers and junior team members.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
