Senior Manager - Public Policy

Razorpay was founded by Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur in 2014. Razorpay is building a new-age digital banking hub (Neobank) for businesses in India with the mission is to enable frictionless banking and payments experiences for businesses of all shapes and sizes. What started as a B2B payments company is processing billions of dollars of payments for lakhs of businesses across India. 

We are a full-stack financial services organisation, committed to helping Indian businesses with comprehensive and innovative payment and business banking solutions built over robust technology to address the entire length and breadth of the payment and banking journey for any business. Over the past year, we've disbursed loans worth millions of dollars in loans to thousands of businesses. In parallel, Razorpay is reimagining how businesses manage money by simplifying business banking (via Razorpay X) and enabling capital availability for businesses (via Razorpay Capital). 

About the Role

As the Manager of Public Policy at Razorpay, you will be the driving force behind our public policy and government relations initiatives in India and across key markets. You will play a crucial role in shaping and advocating for policies that align with our business objectives and regulatory requirements. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment where you will influence the future of the payments and financial services industry. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape and public policy ecosystem, combined with a passion for driving positive change through strategic engagement with regulators, policymakers, and industry bodies.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Policy Strategy Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive public policy and regulatory affairs strategy for India and other key markets, ensuring alignment with Razorpay’s business goals.
  • Government Relations: Establish and strengthen relationships with regulatory agencies, government bodies, and policymakers through proactive engagement, including oral and written communications.
  • Regulatory Advocacy: Lead advocacy efforts on behalf of Razorpay, including drafting responses to regulatory frameworks, discussion papers, and proposed legislations related to payments, financial technology, and financial services.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Razorpay in meetings with government officials, industry associations, and other stakeholders to advance our public policy objectives and influence regulatory developments.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Monitor and analyze regulatory changes, assess their impact on the company, and provide timely updates to local, regional, and global executive management. Recommend appropriate organizational responses to regulatory changes.
  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with product development teams, legal, and other internal stakeholders to provide regulatory input, ensuring timely approvals and compliance with local laws.
  • Training and Awareness: Lead academic sessions, training, and awareness programs with regulators on key industry developments, ensuring a deep understanding of Razorpay’s position and priorities.
  • Risk Management: Implement strategies to manage policy-related risks and protect the company’s interests, while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality in all interactions.

Qualifications Required

  • 9+ years of experience in public policy, regulatory affairs, or government relations, ideally within the payments or financial services industry.
  • Proven track record in stakeholder management, including engagement with government bodies and regulatory agencies.
  • Experience in the APAC region, particularly in India, Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia, is highly desirable.
  • Educational Background: Post Graduate degree in Law, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field

Skills and Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of regulatory and public policy issues in the financial services and payments industry.
  • Strong analytical, research, and communication skills with the ability to simplify complex legal and regulatory matters.
  • Ability to operate independently in a highly matrixed organization and manage large, complex projects under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and influence within local and regional organizations.
  • A high degree of maturity, a positive attitude, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Passion for public policy, with a focus on driving impactful results in a fast-paced environment.
