Investment Manager
Lab Summary:
Samsung Ventures America (SVA) represents the U.S. arm of Samsung's venture investment operations, with offices in Mountain View, CA, and Boston, MA. With over $2.8B assets under management (AUM), the team's core mandate is to identify pioneering technologies that can be integrated within Samsung's business model, thereby enriching the global technology landscape. Our investment interests span semiconductors, materials, mobile services, software, security, enterprise solutions, bioengineering, fintech, insuretech, among others. We evaluate investment prospects ranging from nascent-stage startups to advanced pre-IPO enterprises.
The Investment Manager role has the primary responsibilities to source start-up companies, conduct due diligence, and develop investment thesis in investment areas, including but not limited to: AI, Cyber Security, Blockchain, Health-tech, Digital Infrastructure etc. In this role, you will also conduct market research and plan and engage with start-up companies to learn new technologies. The position is based at our Mountain View office.
Ideal candidates will possess a robust technical acumen, possibly supplemented by consultancy or prior experience in Venture Capital/Corporate Venture Capital (VC/CVC). It's imperative for the candidate to ideate strategies that foster mutual growth for both Samsung and associated startups. An inherent passion for innovation and an inquisitive mindset are quintessential. This role provides a pivotal platform to deeply explore specific technologies, influence Samsung's innovative trajectory, and broaden the tech ecosystem via venture capital initiatives.
This role is based in Mountain View, in-person 5 days a week.
Responsibilities:
- Identify early to late-stage companies and technologies of interest to Samsung
- Conduct comprehensive due diligence on potential investments, including market analysis, financial modeling, competitive landscape evaluation, and technical assessment
- Source, Qualify, Analyze, Manage and Tracking new investment opportunities
- Work closely with our headquarter teams and business units to align investment strategies and objectives
- Aid in deal execution, including term sheet negotiation and closing
- Initiate special projects and conduct “deep dive” research leveraging different platforms (i.e. Pitchbook, CB Insights, Acuity, AlphaSense, Tegus and etc.)
- Be a brand ambassador, enhancing SVA’s visibility and reputation through networking with start-up companies and VC/CVC
- Attend conferences, networking events, meet with companies to find emerging areas technology and introduce to SVA and HQ investment managers
Requirements:
- 2+ years of professional experience in venture capital, corporate VC, consulting, banking, or engineering
- BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering,
- Master's Degree is a plus, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Proficiency at sourcing, identifying, and triaging new partnering and investment opportunities
- Ability to lead research and new market analysis of technologies and competitive landscapes
- Proficient and familiar with using research platforms such as CB Insights, Pitchbook, and etc. handling and processing a large amount of data
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse audience
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Base Pay Range
$126,200 - $173,450 USD
