The Specialist, Fire Protection, will lead day-to-day fire prevention and response activities at the Scout Motors South Carolina vehicle production plant, assuring the protection of people, corporate assets, production operations and business continuity. Reporting to the Manager, Plant Security and Fire Protection, the Fire Protection Specialist will foster a culture of fire prevention awareness throughout the organization, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, drive the implementation of policies, procedures, standards, and technology to contribute to the goals and objectives of both Scout Motors' Security and Fire Protection department and Production operations.
What you’ll do
Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:
- Assist in development and implementation of comprehensive fire protection policies, procedures, and programs for the manufacturing plant campus in alignment with Scout corporate standards during construction and factory operations.
- Lead a team of third-party fire protection professionals, ensuring effective coordination and efficient utilization of resources to maintain a secure and safe environment during and after construction.
- In the absence of the Manager, serve as the acting Manager and oversee all aspects of the plant security program, to include management oversight of the third party guard force and compliance with plant access control policies and procedures.
- During construction, perform daily fire prevention and compliance inspections ensuring planned installations of fire alarm, sprinkler, smoke and heat detection systems are installed, tested and commissioned according to building drawing specifications and requirements for all facility buildings and processes. During factory operations, perform daily fire prevention and compliance inspections to detect fire hazards before they become serious.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training programs on fire protection procedures for employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a culture of prevention awareness.
- Perform daily fire prevention walks during all construction phases, locations and processes.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and fire prevention audits to identify vulnerabilities, make recommendations, and assist in implementing appropriate countermeasures to mitigate risks.
- Design and deliver fire protection and fire prevention communications and education flyers, pamphlets, etc., during and after construction.
- Conduct investigations into fire incidents, accidents, and breaches of fire prevention rules and regulations, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to fire protection, electric vehicle manufacturing, and emergency management, and proactively make recommendations for improvements.
- Assist with on-scene Incident management for emergency situations at the plant; assist in developing, maintaining and executing the Emergency Action and Crisis Response Plans for such situations.
- Assist other members of the corporate Security and Fire Protection teams on topics such as special event and executive protection, investigations, asset protection, etc.
- Develop, track, and control third party contract compliance with invoice auditing and the plant protection investment and operating budgets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Facilities, EHS, Plant Engineering, HR, and IT, to incorporate fire protection and fire prevention requirements into operational plans, construction projects, and emergency response protocols.
- Assist in developing scopes of work, engage qualified suppliers, and manage contracts and service delivery for on-site fire protection services and technologies.
- Ensure the monitoring and maintenance of electronic systems, including fire alarms systems, to ensure their proper functioning and timely resolution of any technical issues.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local law enforcement, emergency response agencies, community advisory boards, and other external stakeholders to facilitate effective incident response and community engagement.
- Set, measure, and report fire protection KPI and OKR (goals and objectives), incidents, and team performance.
- Represent Scout Fire Protection in relevant internal and external committees, working groups, associations, etc.
- Other tasks or projects as directed by the Manager, Plant Security & Fire Protection.
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Blythewood, South Carolina.
- The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance at the manufacturing facility with in-person meetings and events regularly.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
- Travel: Occasional business travel (domestic and international) will be required. Valid driver's license required. Passport will be required.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent certifications and experience in Fire Protection Management, or a related field. Relevant certifications (NFPA) or equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in fire protection, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or command role.
- Command or training experience in a municipal fire department.
- Experience coordinating crisis events from an operations or fusion center is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of fire protection principles, and emergency response protocols.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing fire protection policies, procedures, and programs, ideally within a large-scale industrial environment.
- Strong, proven written communication skills with the ability to quickly prepare clear and detailed reports, procedures, and instructions with little to no revisions for internal stakeholders, external agencies, and contractors.
- Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, external agencies, and contractors.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Hands on familiarity with fire protection technologies, including technical knowledge of fire suppression and monitoring systems.
- Experience in conducting fire incident investigations and preparing detailed reports in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal codes and regulations related to fire protection and emergency management.
- Ability to work and take decisions independently, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Valid driver's license.

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $100,000.00 - $115,000.00
