About the Team

The Component Center within Scout includes experts in statistical process control, data analysis, functional analysis, programming, and tactile & optical measurement. This role is specifically designed to evaluate component deviations ensuring the quality and precision of vehicle body assembly and surface quality, focusing on precise fit, form, function and visual appearance.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

The Programming Quality Engineer will write offline measurement programs for CMMs and OMMs; validate those offline programs on the equipment; assist Measurement Technicians with setup and measurement as needed; manage gauge R&R; analyze measurement data, prepare presentations, and support quality improvement activities.

 

Pre-series:

  • Assist in Component Center equipment and fixture installation and setup
  • Review CAD models and measurement point maps
  • Program, operate and translate data from CMM, scanning systems, and other measurement methods

Series:

  • Perform measurement work according to measurement plan
  • Prepare work pieces offline for measurement
  • Monitor running programs to ensure high throughput
  • Participate in continuous improvement and root cause analysis activities
  • Perform basic CMM and OMM maintenance
  • Troubleshoot equipment and software issues
  • Works with Geometry Central Functions to prepare equipment for external calibration

During both phases:

  • Monitor control charts to visually identify trends, outliers, and deviations from established process limits
  • Communicate technical data and a high level to cross-functional teams

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Bythewood, South Carolina. 
  • The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company
  • Additional Travel Requirements: International, Domestic, 5-10% of the time, Passport desired but not required upon hire.

What you’ll bring

  • 5+ years of experience programming CMM machines and 3D scanners.
  • 3+ years of experience evaluating part geometry using gages and fixtures.
  • High school diploma required. Associate degree preferred but not mandatory.
  • Knowledgeable with vehicle launch phased processes.
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control.
  • Ability to visualize part in three-dimensional space and explain topics to non-technical team members.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and GD&T.
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • CMM and OMM software proficiency
  • Measurement equipment and software maintenance
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong initiative to develop professionally.

 

Optional/suggestions:

  • Previous experience in automotive industry evaluating part and assembly geometry.
  • Familiarity with working with CAD systems and 3D PMI.
  • Familiarity with measurement database software
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Yellow Belt certification
  • Soft skills: Public speaking, cross-functional collaboration.
  • Is a self-starter. Can take initiative, work independently and find solutions without constant supervision.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range =     $90,000.00 - $112,500.00
