Your Role:

At Tenable, we're looking for a passionate and skilled Presales Security Engineer to join our Public Sector team, focusing on State, Local, and Education (SLED) accounts. In this role, you'll be crucial in driving sales success and enhancing our customers' experience through your technical expertise. You'll work closely with Sales Representatives and a talented team to differentiate Tenable, build lasting customer relationships, and create enthusiastic advocates for our solutions. This role is primarily focused on State, Local, and Education entities in the US - West region.

Your Opportunity:

  • Deliver Technical Demonstrations: Present technical demonstrations of Tenable’s platform products, showcasing their value and differentiation to potential customers.
  • Support Evaluations: Assist with enterprise software trials and "Proof of Value" evaluations, ensuring they align with customer goals.
  • Solve Real Problems: Help customers address their challenges and business needs with consultative security and compliance insights.
  • Engage and Educate: Answer technical questions and provide insights, occasionally supporting local events and conferences.
  • Support Sales Efforts: Collaborate with sales representatives to achieve or exceed revenue targets, support local partners in commercial deals, and contribute to responses for RFIs and RFPs.
  • Build Relationships: Foster strong relationships with customers, partners, and internal peers at various levels within the organization.
  • Shape the Future: Collaborate with cross-functional teams via projects to shape the direction of Tenable, and our portfolio of tools. 

What You'll Need

  • Location: Must live in Bay Area / San Jose area or surrounding region
  • Technical Aptitude: An ability to understand and explain how to assess vulnerabilities and attack paths across IT, Cloud, and converged OT/IoT infrastructure.
  • Industry Awareness: A foundational understanding of cybersecurity and industry trends to align technical solutions with business objectives.
  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals: Familiarity with the cybersecurity ecosystem both on-premise and in the Cloud, including concepts like Vulnerability Management, Exposure Management, Attack Surface Management, Web Application Security, CMDB, EDR, Ticketing, Patch Management, PAM, and IDAM.
  • Cloud Knowledge: Basic knowledge of major cloud infrastructure providers like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, including an understanding of security principles spanning cloud services.
  • Compliance Awareness: An understanding of relevant compliance standards for public sector entities (e.g., CIS, NIST, State-specific regulations, GovRAMP, FedRAMP).
  • Effective Communicator: Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt your message based on the audience and effectively frame problems and solutions.
  • Customer & Partner Engagement: Ability to perform product demonstrations and presentations.
  • Documentation Skills: Ability to maintain records of activities, including scopes of work, issues, solutions, and next steps.
  • Team Player: Strong collaboration skills are essential, as working with others is key to this role’s success.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel as needed within your territory (up to 25%).

And Ideally:

  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a technical or pre-sales role.
  • Certifications: Relevant industry certifications such as Security+, CySA+, or vendor-specific certifications.
  • Network Fundamentals: Basic understanding of TCP/IP and network security concepts.
  • Operating Systems: Experience with enterprise-class operating systems at a user or administrative level.
  • Automation Interest: An interest in or basic familiarity with scripting (e.g., Python) or automation tools.
  • Proactive Attitude: A self-starter who is eager to learn and stay up to date with current technologies.

This is the base pay range for this position. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, location and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. Employees are also eligible for variable compensation in addition to base pay (commission for sales roles, bonus for non-sales roles), depending on company and individual performance. $130,500 - $173,833.33 USD
