Senior Audio Producer and Editor, Opinion

New York Times Opinion is seeking a Senior Producer and Editor to develop a new audio and video podcast hosted by columnist Ross Douthat. You are not only a post-production mastermind but also an exceptional editorial schedule manager. You should have very strong editorial judgment and should be able to take an episode of the show from conception to completion and on a tight turnaround. You should relish the opportunity to showcase voices in the conservative landscape, and possess an enthusiasm for topics including politics, policy and religion.
Responsibilities:

Assists team leadership in developing programming plans, production schedules, and editorial calendars that account for the news environment and staffing considerations

Helps producers take episodes across the finish line, in both audio and video edits

Reviews video or audio edits for editorial excellence and quality control before publish

Identifies the most important news and ideas of the moment and works to develop ambitious coverage plans that bring these ideas to life

Consistently generates a meaningful proportion of the show’s episodes and episode ideas

Leads on pitching, booking, researching, scripting, and structuring episodes

Excels in self-editing, making editorial decisions around length, format, and tone before and during production

Conducts pre-interviews with columnists and outside sources

Drives production on shorter-term and longer-term stories from start to finish, including recording, cutting tape or video

Has solid experience in non-linear editing software such as Pro Tools and/or Premiere

Coordinates video taping for episodes, including in studio and in the field

Provides input on the visual direction of the show

Directs host and guests in the studio or field, autonomously or in collaboration with an editor

Can largely structure their own production calendars, and set incremental deadlines for projects

Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
-
10+ years in a news environment
-
5+ years of production experience
-
Experience creating and managing production schedules and editorial calendars
-
Extensive researching skills for preparing and structuring longform narrative and ideas interviews
-
Experience booking interviews, writing prep documents and interview questions, producing interviews on tight deadlines, and cutting down conversations in post production
-
Demonstrated success in the creation of innovative content
-
Proficiency and speed working in non-linear editing software such as Pro Tools and/or Premiere
-
Familiarity with the conservative intellectual and media landscape

Experience working with talent
-
Solid news and editorial judgment
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with video journalism.

Experience with YouTube and social video strategy.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$124,979.94 - $135,000 USD
