Job brief:
The Weather Company (TWC) is seeking an Aviation Meteorologist to join our forecasting team in Andover, Massachusetts. As an Aviation Meteorologist, you will provide advanced forecasting expertise for TWC's decision-support products and services to airline operations control centers and airline airport personnel. This position requires an understanding of airline operations and the air traffic control environment. You will deliver timely products with the accuracy and quality required to meet and exceed customer expectations. Additionally, you will convey complex concepts and risk assessments to a diverse set of operational users within the airline environment.
The impact you'll make:
- Provide aviation forecasts for terminal weather conditions and arrival/departure airspace covering the 0-72-hour domain.
- Evaluate data and issue written, graphical, and oral aviation forecasts and alerts for use by dispatchers and pilots.
- Produce forecasts and advisories for en route weather hazards within the 0-24-hour domain.
- Apply knowledge of airspace and air traffic control programs affecting airline operations.
- Actively collaborate with other meteorologists on global weather issues, particularly in the 0-48-hour timeframe, with a specific focus on forecast trends within 24 hours.
- Generate short-fused narratives, forecast discussions, and weather alerts for disruptive weather events within the 0-24-hour forecast domain as conditions dictate.
- Develop system-wide risk forecasts for significant weather events impacting customer assets, including severe thunderstorms, snow and ice, winds, and tropical systems.
- Deliver operational forecast content consistently and accurately within rigid time constraints.
What you've accomplished:
- 1-3 years of operational aviation weather forecasting experience (civil/commercial experience or military experience accepted), with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact in an operational team environment.
- Advanced proficiency in the forecast process within an operational forecasting environment.
- Exceptional organizational, data analysis, data collation, and process management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and adjust priorities based on changing weather conditions in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related science from an accredited college or university, or a combination of training and experience that qualifies as an aviation forecaster by the NWS or a U.S. or NATO military authority.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise:
