Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Technical Accountant. This role will be responsible for researching technical accounting guidance, and ensuring compliance with US GAAP and internal policies, particularly related to capitalization of internally developed software costs. Sitting within the corporate accounting function, the Senior Technical Accountant will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including finance, engineering, and IT.
The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to collaborate effectively across departments. An inquisitive mindset coupled with a commitment to continuous learning along with strong written and verbal communication skills will be key to success in this role.
Responsibilities
· Technical Accounting & Compliance:
· Research and interpret complex accounting issues, including new pronouncements and their impact on financial statements.
· Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal accounting policies across relevant areas.
· Assist in formalizing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures documentation updating accounting policies and procedures in alignment with evolving standards and business practices.
· Support implementation and communication of policy changes across relevant teams to ensure proper adoption.
· Support the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering and IT to ensure accurate time and cost allocations.
· Contribute to cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving data quality, system integration, and reporting consistency.
· Capitalization & Compliance:
· Apply GAAP and company policies to determine capitalization eligibility of software development projects.
· Monitor and track costs associated with software development projects and assist with variance analysis.
· Maintain budgets and forecasts related to capitalized software initiatives, identifying variances and providing timely insights to key stakeholders.
· Ensure proper documentation and audit trails for capitalized costs.
· Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to capitalized software.
· Prepare detailed reports on capitalized software balances, amortization schedules, and project spend.
· Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements related to capitalized software accounting and support internal and external audits requests.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
· 5+ years of public company accounting or finance experience.
· Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong ability to support cross-functional business partners.
· Detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities.
· Understanding of and ability to adhere to US GAAP.
· CPA or progress toward CPA.
· Experience working with Agile or other software development methodologies.
· Understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and software capitalization rules.
· Proactive, with a continuous improvement mindset.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
· Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
· Big 4 public accounting experience.
· Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, NetSuite) and project management tools.
· Proficiency with project management tools and Oracle Fusion.
