The Role
We are seeking a Software Engineer who can contribute to the development of modern, scalable, and high-performance web applications that empower emergency responders and law enforcement professionals. The Software Engineer II (Front End) will collaborate closely with senior engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver intuitive, accessible, and reliable user interfaces. You will also work within our UI component system, contributing to its growth and ensuring consistency across our product ecosystem.
What You Do
Frontend Development:
- Build responsive, performant, and accessible UIs using React (and other modern frameworks as applicable).
- Implement reusable components from Versaterm’s UI component system and contribute improvements back to it.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate APIs and data efficiently.
- Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility.
Collaboration & Delivery:
- Work with UX designers to translate designs into clean, maintainable code.
- Partner with product managers to deliver features on time within agile sprints.
- Participate in code reviews and share feedback to maintain code quality.
Accessibility & Quality:
- Apply accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA compliance) in all development work.
- Write unit tests and contribute to automated testing for quality assurance.
- Monitor and improve frontend performance.
Learning & Growth:
- Learn from senior engineers and mentors while taking increasing ownership of features.
- Stay current with frontend frameworks, tools, and AI-assisted development practices.
- Explore the use of AI (e.g., ChatGPT) to support component development and coding workflows.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications:
- 2–4 years of professional software development experience focused on frontend development.
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and React (or similar modern frameworks).
- Familiarity with reusable component systems or design systems.
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA), responsive design, and performance best practices.
- Experience with Git, agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Asset Qualifications:
- Experience contributing to design systems or component libraries.
- Familiarity with state management tools (e.g., Redux, Zustand).
- Exposure to backend technologies (Node.js, GraphQL, REST APIs).
- Ability to effectively leverage AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to support component development, accelerate workflows, and enhance quality.
- Passion for public safety and creating software that saves lives.

Candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive, fingerprint-based background check. Please note that specific customer contracts may impose additional security verification requirements.
