Medical Assistant - Full time Lifesigns
Position Summary: The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled professional who assists in patient care management, bridging the gap between the medical staff and patients. They perform various clinical and administrative tasks to ensure that health facilities run smoothly. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in WCC Mission, Vision and Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
- Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments.
- Administer medications as directed by a physician.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
- Perform basic laboratory tests and EKGs.
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, and physicians' instructions to patients.
- Ensure that all equipment is sterilized and maintain a clean working environment.
- Maintain awareness and compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Ensure examination rooms are stocked with necessary supplies.
- Order medical and office supplies as needed.
Qualifications/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program is highly preferred.
- Certification from a recognized Medical Assistant program is a plus (e.g., CMA, RMA, NCMA).
- Basic understanding of clinical procedures and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in using medical software and electronic health records (EHR).
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with diverse patient populations.
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR is desirable.
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Conditions:
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The employee is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
