Clinical Pharmacy Manager - Infusion Pharmacy

Summary:

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will supervise pharmacy staff and provide the highest quality of care to West Cancer Center’s pharmacy services. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will report to the Director of Pharmacy and help to coordinate and implement quality assurance measures. The Clinical Manager will also be responsible for assisting in maintaining the unit’s budget, policy, and program development as well as implementation of those programs.   The Clinical Pharmacy Manager supports patient and family centered initiatives to enhance the mission of the organization, and models appropriate behavior as exemplified in West Cancer Center’s values and missions.

REQUIRED:

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited Pharmacy school or university.

 

A minimum of three (3) years progressive pharmacy leadership experience in an inpatient or outpatient healthcare setting.

AND

A minimum of five (5) years as a clinical/staff pharmacist

 

PharmD/ Registered Pharmacist License

Active pharmacist license in good standing

Completion of an Oncology Pharmacy Curriculum Course

 

PREFERRED:

Master’s degree in health/hospital or business administration or related field.

 

 

BPS Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of healthcare with successful track record of resolving critical issues, contribution to business unit/area development, and improved operational efficiencies.
  • Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as clinical policies.
  • Excellent communication skills including a high degree of professionalism and personal presence.
  • Expertise in skills of planning, resource allocation and management, and building collaborative teams.
  • Ability to lead and motivate individuals and groups toward the accomplishment of organizational goals.
  • Possesses good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, integrity, and diplomacy.
  • Skill in negotiating with and between individuals and groups of people, including Associates, management, and physicians.
  • Knowledge and efficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge in strategic planning and the monitoring of operating budgets.
  • Sound judgment sufficient to ensure the integrity of clinical operations and to provide exemplary leadership in the development of teamwork among clinic staff, as well as in setting performance and motivational standards for Associates.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures, supervision of staff, inventory management, quality assurance and regulatory compliance
  • Assist Director of Pharmacy in managing the operations of all pharmacy sites
  • Oversight of all pharmacy staff, including but not limited to, workflow, scheduling, and performance reviews
  • Oversight of the inventory management system (i.e., Nucleus) including but not limited to maintaining accurate inventory levels, interpreting reports, and assigning duties for maintenance
  • Coordinates clinical activities such as the creation of MUE’s and monitoring of ADR’s, financial analysis, and quality assurance performance.
  • Perform regularly scheduled assessments of all pharmacy policies and procedures
  • Complete regularly scheduled site visits to satellite pharmacies
  • Provide regular communication to key medical staff members and clinical administration team members regarding key initiatives for area of responsibility
  • Maintain and update pharmacy-related drug list such as: LASA list, High Alert Drugs List, and Hazardous Drug List.
  • Maintain and update diluent charts, department educational tools, department charts and master formulary lists
  • Provide status updates to Director of Pharmacy and senior management
  • Aid in creation of policies and standard operating procedures
  • Participate and present at several committees, meetings, and business reviews as needed
  • Develop and administer training and education programs for area of responsibility
  • Ensure yearly competencies for all pharmacy staff is completed
  • Work with Pharmacy leadership to establish and develop goals for staff pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians.
  • Mentor and assist in training of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Participates in self-development activities related to current job function or future career growth
  • Participate in initiatives to achieve strategic objectives
  • Ensure patient and staff expectations are met
  • Dedicating time to aid staff in the event of low staffing levels
  • Follow and promote the missions and values of the West Cancer Center’s pharmacy department to inspire a working environment that attracts and retains talented, committed, and engaged employees.

Supervision Provided by this Position:

  • Directs the functional leaders in assigned areas. Manages directly or indirectly all infusion services staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

Physical Demands/Conditions:

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
