Registered Dietitian - Wolf River
Position Summary: This position provides nutrition consultation to cancer patients across the continuum of the cancer experience, including: primary prevention, cancer treatment, secondary prevention, cancer recurrence, and palliative care. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director, Supportive Care Services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Implements a nutrition screening system for cancer patients undergoing active treatment.
- Provides individualized nutrition assessments, counseling and nutrition recommendations to patients based on patients’ specific therapies and nutrition needs.
- Attends and contributes to multi-disciplinary team patient-care rounds for acute care cancer patients.
- Provides ongoing nutrition classes for patients and in-services for staff addressing nutrition topics.
- Identifies and develops research-based care plans and clinical pathways as a basis for nutrition care.
- Develops nutrition education and resource materials as needed.
- Attends educational programs to maintain status as effective and knowledgeable resource regarding oncology patients’ nutrition needs.
- Serves as a resource to staff regarding nutrition needs of Oncology patients.
- Interfaces with all employees and patients of The West Clinic.
- Respects the dignity and confidentiality of patients.
- Maintains a good attendance record and reports on time for work.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
- Complies with clinic safety policy and procedures.
- Possesses good communication skills that lend to a team-oriented work environment.
- Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
- Assists with training and orientation of new employees as assigned.
- Some travel may be required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and two to three years related experience in the nutritional field. Registered Dietitian (RD) and Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) certifications are required and Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) certification is preferred.
Must have excellent organization and follow-up skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent problem-solving skills; ability to organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner; ability to participate in multi-functional teams; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within The West Clinic. Must be proficient in computer applications including word processing and e-mail. Additional hours may be required.
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:
- Typical clinical environment with moderate noise level.
- Ability to walk, sit and use hand/wrist, stoop or crouch, talk, hear, see for extended periods of time.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
