Financial Reporting Staff Accountant

WHO YOU ARE:

The Financial Reporting Staff Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, and high-quality financial data across all Zinnia clients. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, data analysis, and reconciliation processes, particularly within separate accounts. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to support client-specific financial reporting and contribute to Zinnia’s commitment to excellence in service and integrity in financial operations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Research discrepancies to be compliant with regulatory guidelines and service levels
  • Perform cross-training to new associates
  • Identify and initiate process improvements from daily tasks
  • Effectively Handle Internal and External Communication
  • Encourage ongoing excellence, quality and customer service
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and industry trends
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction and strive to meet & exceed service standards.
  • Developing and maintaining a solid working knowledge of the insurance industry and of all products, services and processes performed by the team

Client-Centric Financial Reporting

  • Deliver accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting for all Zinnia clients.
  • Research and analyze accounting data to support financial accuracy and client confidence.
  • Generate recurring and ad hoc financial reports tailored to individual client needs and regulatory requirements.

Separate Account Oversight

  • Manage separate account structures, ensuring proper transaction flow, classification, and reporting integrity.
  • Monitor and validate premium allocations, asset movements, and investment earnings within separate accounts.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to align financial reporting with contractual obligations.

Reconciliations & Discrepancy Resolution

  • Perform comprehensive account reconciliations on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies across financial systems to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and service level agreements.
  • Document resolution steps and ensure appropriate audit trails are maintained. 

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Support audit preparation and internal control testing related to financial reporting.
  • Ensure reporting and reconciliation processes align with GAAP, internal policies, and industry regulations.

Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Recommend and implement improvements to reporting and reconciliation workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, technology and clients to enhance reporting efficiency and data reliability.
  • Effectively handle internal and external communications

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, experience with Oracle PeopleSoft is a plus
  • Strong quantitative, research, and analytical skills.
  • Proven problem solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to develop industry related knowledge
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions and effectively communicate with all levels within Zinnia
  • Flexible team player; with ability to prioritize multiple tasks
