Senior Environment Artist
Cloud Chamber is looking for an accomplished Senior Artist with the ability to create rich, detailed 3D environments. You are an architect who can conceive, plan, specify, coordinate, and execute the vision in an organized and predictable manner. Previous experience has left you with a strong understanding of how to leverage the tools to create and realize the directed vision. Reporting to the Lead Artist, and working alongside a multi-disciplined team, you will construct set pieces and assets, create and compose modular kits to build believable and detailed spaces, and set the bar for stunning visuals. Your goal is to bring to life, and push forward, the creative vision for the fantastical world of BioShock.
Job Details:
- Collaborate closely with the Level Design, Modeling, Narrative, Concept, Combat, and Cinematic teams.
- Create believable, functional, and visually strong environments from scratch.
- Execute your work in a methodical and iterative way: Gather references, concept art, iterate on layout composition using blocking, create architectural kits and prop placeholders to populate your environments.
- Assume creative, technical, and production ownership over your environments.
- Contribute to the artistic vision of your space, ensure that dependencies are properly communicated through Jira, and your work is technically compliant according to best practices established by the Tech Art and Core Tech teams.
- Create visual benchmark environments and level layouts to present to your team and develop a process in which to replicate those successes.
- Create and compose modular kits and collection sets to form dramatic, believable spaces.
- Communicate effectively with team members, production, and management to ensure that project goals and deadlines are met.
- Work with Leads to develop world building and modeling processes, alignment decks, documentation and tutorials, and ensure that quality is maintained for environment art.
- Receive, give, and apply feedback effectively while maintaining a constructive, team centric attitude.
- Champion high standards, push for progress, embrace change, and challenge the status quo.
- Respond elegantly to difficult creative changes, often late in the process.
- Act as a positive force multiplier with a great team-player attitude.
Skills, Experience et Qualifications:
- Experience shipping at least one 3D AAA title in FPS or Third Person (using Unreal 4 or Unreal 5).
- Experience working with Unreal 5.
- Experience working within cross-discipline strike teams on collaborative assignments.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Art, or equivalent work experience.
- Superior eye for composition, contrast, color, and detail.
- Proficient in the creation of modular kits and proxy models for high-quality, stylized environments.
- Solid understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette as it relates to World building.
- Solid understanding of architectural structure, special design, industrial design, and the details necessary for crafting the building blocks of believable environments.
- Experience creating and maintaining asset libraries, organized by theme and function.
- Experience with materials and shaders, knowing what is needed and where to use them for difficult visual targets is a plus.
- An interest in relevant adjacent disciplines such as architecture, urban design, interior design, photography, film, lighting, and drawing is beneficial.
- Experience working within cross-discipline strike teams on collaborative assignments effectively and constructively.
- Self-motivated, excellent communication skills, and a great team-player attitude.
- Strong organizational skills, with a critical eye for detail.
- Ability to establish priorities, delegate, and complete tasks on time.
- Passion for working on your craft and mentoring more junior artists one on one or with tutorials and videos.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing production situations.
- Mature outlook on work ethics and responsibilities.
