Gearbox Software is seeking a game designer to join us in developing a first person shooter. This role involves working in a small team environment with the Creative Director and Gameplay Coders to design, implement, and balance new weapons and abilities for the game. This role will work closely with all departments involved on the project to iterate and improve the game experience for plays. Additional responsibilities may include additional game direction, systems design, and other design needs that might arise. This role will require constant online playtesting and working with the community to improve the game over time.
Responsibilities:
- Develop new weapons and player abilities for the core loop of the game. This will involve pitching new ideas and taking those ideas all the way through the production pipeline to a shippable result.
- Iterate existing game systems and creating new ones based on project direction and feedback. This involves working closely with coders, artists, and other designers to make sure features meet goals and ship on time.
- Work closely with internal focus testing, community management, and other sources of player feedback to maintain and expand the online community surrounding the game
Qualifications:
- Heavy investment in first person shooters, both as a player and developer. A deep understanding of the marketplace, history, and customer expectations in the community.
- Proven track record of modern systems design and/or scripting experience. Should include videos, screenshots, or documentation of systems or scripting.
- Have shipped 1 or more AAA action titles in a game design role, with a preference towards Unreal technology, first person shooters, and online games.
- Excellent documentation, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain focus and self-motivation towards the current project goals.
- Live near or be able to relocate to Frisco, Texas
Bonus Points For:
- 3 or more years of game design experience, including at least 1 competitive multiplayer title
- Shipped games using Unreal 4 technology
- Level Design experience
- Experience with monetization strategies and incorporating them into game designs.
- Experience working in small, rapid development environments
- Prior leadership experience
