Position Description:

The Security Specialist will provide support to the Cybersecurity Standards, Guidance, and Engineering team in assisting the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Information Assurance project. This entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in privacy and information security within a federal agency environment.

Location: Hybrid – Arlington, VA (Limited on-site based on client need)

Clearance: Active Secret

Responsibilities and/or Success Factors

  • Assist in the review of documentation such as Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA), Privacy Threshold Analyses (PTA), System of Records Notices (SORNs), System High Risk (SHR) reports, and Operational Data Privacy Assessments (ODPA).
  • Support collaboration efforts with internal teams, including the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), to help prevent and address incidents involving privacy data.
  • Contribute to privacy-related briefings and provide inputs for senior leaders, including the Senior Agency Official for Privacy (SAOP) and Chief Privacy Officer (CPO).
  • Participate in the development and improvement of privacy processes under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Gain exposure to federal privacy regulations and standards, including the Privacy Act and NIST guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications, Specialized Degrees, and Certifications

Required:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Active SECRET clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (preferably in a relevant field such as Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or Computer Science).

Preferred:

  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity, privacy, or related fields (internships or academic projects may count toward this requirement)
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US or CIPP/G), or entry-level cybersecurity certifications (e.g., Certified Cybersecurity Technician).
  • Basic understanding of privacy and data protection concepts, as well as knowledge of federal regulations like the Privacy Act and NIST standards.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with a willingness to learn and grow in the field of information security.
