We have open positions on our DB Platform and Credence teams at Box. They fall under the same hiring manager in Core Data, so they share similar projects and initiatives. With that being said, you will be considered for both roles by applying to this job description. Here is a little more about each of the teams:
At Box, developers face the challenge of handling millions of requests per second while ensuring top-notch uptime, consistency, and performance. The DB Platform team aims to support developers by providing a scalable and resilient database platform that meets their needs. As a member of this team, you will collaborate with other teams to optimize data distribution across databases for high performance in a low-latency environment. By understanding client use cases, you will enhance the usability of our relational data platform and contribute to building a more scalable infrastructure in the cloud.
The Credence team at Box focuses on delivering highly-available services for uniform access to relational data. Joining this team offers an opportunity to shape the future of data at Box by developing and scaling distributed data access services with an emphasis on availability, performance, and consistency. You will work closely with various teams to improve usability and promote proper usage of data access libraries while contributing to making our cloud-based data tier more scalable and performant than ever before.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
-
Define the future of Box DB Platform architecture in the cloud and drive its evolution
-
Collaborate with team members to design innovative solutions for scaling and monitoring challenges associated with increased data usage

Develop services to identify, eliminate, and prevent data inconsistencies or corruptions

Provide guidance to client engineering teams on designing entity schemas in a sharded, low-latency, high-throughput environment

Simplify database schema management to enable rapid feature development for application developers on Box's dynamic platform

Continuously improve the availability and performance of our relational data platform while ensuring consistency and supporting growing traffic volume

Create client libraries for accessing our relational data platform and promote their proper use across the engineering organization

Understand client use cases to enhance the usability of our data access services, facilitating rapid feature development for application developers on Box's expanding platform
WHO YOU ARE
Required Skills:
-
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field

4+ years of professional software development experience

Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures and code design principles

Strong grasp of high-scale distributed systems
Preferred Skills:
-
Familiarity with management or development of a high-scale relational database in a distributed environment

Passionate about database scale and performance challenges

Strong sense of ownership, persistence and drive, strong communication

Familiarity with MySQL, Memcached, and/or Redis
