Who You Are

As part of the management team, the Senior Director, Controller will be responsible for directing and overseeing the financial and accounting operations for both the parent company and all affiliate entities. This includes ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining proper internal controls, coordinating with external advisors, managing accounting close processes, and leading budget, forecast, and cash planning activities. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in biotech/life sciences accounting, a track record in managing complex corporate structures, thrives in an autonomous environment, identifying opportunities and executing solutions with minimal guidance, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Financial Reporting: Oversee the outsourced accounting service providers on day-to-day accounting activities for all affiliates and the parent company, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting including monthly and quarterly close, treasury operations, vendor payments, expense reporting, and manage cost allocations across projects
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and maintain annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans; provide financial analyses and scenario modeling to inform strategic decision-making. Review of purchase order and spending against consolidation
  • Cash & Treasury Management: Monitor and report on cash flow, runway forecasts, and banking relationships to ensure adequate liquidity and financial stability
  • External Collaboration & Compliance: Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and other stakeholders; develop, implement and maintain robust internal controls and ensure compliance with statutory and other regulatory requirements
  • Establish accounting policies and procedures
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with executive leadership to provide financial counsel, advise on corporate structure and risk mitigation, and drive initiatives that support the company’s long-term objectives
  • Ad hoc project as required by management

Education, Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA (or CMA) strongly preferred
  • Professional Experience: 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience in biotech or life sciences, including 5+ years in a leadership role. Expertise in US GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software, procurement systems and advanced Excel; Demonstrated ability to implement and maintain robust internal controls
  • Soft Skills & Leadership: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of mentoring teams; High level of integrity, attention to detail, and collaborative approach to problem-solving

At GondolaBio, we strive to provide a market-competitive total rewards package, including base pay, an annual performance bonus, company equity, and generous health benefits. Below is the anticipated salary range for candidates for this role who will work in California. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, educational background, location of residence and performance during the interview process. GondolaBio is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions based in other states.
