London, England, United Kingdom

Opportunity

As a Director, you will lead on the development and delivery of strategic communications plans and provide senior-level advice to a broad range of clients in the foundations and non-profit sector. You will develop and land regular and proactive ideas for clients, advising on critical issues impacting some of the world’s most influential businesses and playing a leading role as day-to-day point of contact for your clients.

You will also develop strategies to approach and cultivate new business targets using a strong internal network that includes talent from across Brunswick’s entire offering, as well as your own external network.

You will ensure the smooth running of teams by establishing clear roles, managing performance, and ensuring that all key stakeholders and client needs are being covered by the team. You will work closely with Partners on all aspects of client management, including account finances, fee negotiation, and adviser meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Significantly contribute to the development and enhancement of Brunswick’s Foundations and Non-Profits practice in the UK, Europe, Africa, and globally; by deepening our expertise and building a world-class practice that will deliver outstanding work.
  • Understand and articulate the issues and challenges facing philanthropy; working with clients and colleagues to translate these issues into meaningful programmes which align with and ultimately enhance the respective client’s wider business strategy.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients; partnering with them and helping them define and articulate their position across a range of audiences and stakeholder groups.
  • Drive at least one major global client account
  • Foster ‘big idea’ generation, innovation and activation across the sector, driving colleagues and teams to bring ideas to life.
  • Drive new business and prospecting; work closely with Brunswick colleagues to define and deliver a business strategy which makes use of internal networks and marketing opportunities to deliver “more for more”.
  • Maintain clear sight of the operational effectiveness of client accounts and teams, staying close on quality assurance and open to being “hands-on” with client work.
  • Lead by example to move the business forward and to support the ongoing development of colleagues and mentees. Inspire, develop, and actively mentor colleagues.
  • Proactively represent Brunswick’s Foundations and Non-Profits practice externally, and alongside other key colleagues within the Partnership.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • A strong track record either working in an advisory role within a global corporate or charitable foundation, multilateral organisation, NGO, or government or consulting experience advising philanthropic clients.
  • 10+ years’ relevant professional experience, preferably from agency side
  • Deep understanding of the philanthropic and international development landscape, with first-hand experience of handling highly topical issues, and an extensive network from which to draw intelligence.
  • An understanding of the interplay between business, politics, and society, particularly as it relates to this sector.
  • A strong understanding of corporate positioning, and how to develop strategies and advocacy campaigns that can translate into programs with real sustained impact.
  • Experience in media-handling, with extensive knowledge of the development media landscape, would be highly beneficial.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a commercial, self-starting, and fast-paced environment.
  • Experience advising senior leaders with efficacy and diplomacy.
  • Ability to connect with and leverage the skills and expertise of colleagues, to deliver the best possible advice, campaigns and programs to clients.
  • A strong verbal and written communicator with high EQ levels and an engaging presentation style.
  • A global perspective and experience working with international teams or organisations.
  • A balance of creative and analytical thinking, bringing rigor, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • A natural team-worker who prefers to work in a collegiate way.
