Position Summary:
The City is seeking a dedicated Occupational Safety Program Manager with a specialized focus on industrial ergonomics to oversee and advance the citywide health and safety program under the Office of Risk Management. This role centers on designing, executing, and refining ergonomics-driven safety initiatives that reduce musculoskeletal risk and enhance workplace design across varied operational settings.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of ergonomic principles, workplace human factors, physical job demands analysis, and risk reduction strategies. This is a strategic position for a professional committed to optimizing worker safety and comfort through evidence-based ergonomic interventions.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the citywide Industrial Ergonomics Program with an emphasis on proactive risk identification and ergonomic hazard mitigation.

Conduct ergonomic assessments of workstations, equipment, and tasks to identify physical stressors contributing to injury risk.

Recommend and implement engineering, administrative, and behavioral controls to improve workplace design and reduce ergonomic hazards.

Collaborate with departments to integrate ergonomic best practices into equipment procurement, facilities design, and job task development.

Develop and deliver tailored training sessions on ergonomics awareness, proper lifting techniques, tool handling, and safe work postures.

Utilize ergonomic assessment tools, software, and data analytics to track injury trends and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

Support incident investigations related to musculoskeletal injuries, focusing on contributing ergonomic risk factors and control strategies.

Maintain compliance with OSHA guidelines and other applicable regulations related to ergonomics and workplace safety.

Serve as a subject matter expert for industrial ergonomics, advising supervisors, health and safety coordinators, and design teams.

Collaborate with human resources and medical providers to support early intervention and return-to-work programs where ergonomics are a factor.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, Human Factors, Kinesiology, Environmental Health, or a related field.
Experience:
General Experience:
-
Minimum of three (3) years in occupational safety, injury prevention, or industrial engineering, including work involving job task analysis or human-machine interaction.
Specific Experience:

At least one (1) year of full-time professional experience directly managing or implementing an occupational safety or ergonomics program.

Must include one (1) year of applied experience in industrial or occupational ergonomics, including assessments and risk reduction planning.
Certifications & Licensure:

Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license (or eligibility to obtain one).

Professional certifications preferred, such as Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), Certified Industrial Ergonomist (CIE), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Physical & Medical Requirements:

Must be able to perform physical evaluations, including lifting demonstrations, workstation assessments, and on-site field inspections in varied environments.

Preferred Skills & Competencies:

In-depth knowledge of ergonomic design standards and applicable OSHA regulations.
