Engineering Manager (hands-on .NET/C# & React)

We’re looking for a hands on full stack Engineering Manager who expects more from their career. It’s a chance to extend and improve dunnhumby’s Media group. It’s an opportunity to work with a market-leading business to explore new opportunities for us and influence global retailers.

 

What you’ll be working on

Joining our team, you’ll work with world class and passionate people and build world’s first omnichannel retail media portal. Our product is still under active development, and you can help scaling it for many CPG (consumer packaged goods) users. You have access to around 15-20 strong engineering managers from other teams within the engineering group to collaborate, learn and influence the architecture & design of the product. Our tech stack includes React/JS on frontend, .NET Core C# on the backend, and hosted mainly on GCP, but may also include other cloud platforms. You will be leading and managing a talented team of 5 full stack engineers.

Around 80% of your time will be focused around hands on work, with around 20% focused on people management.

 

What we expect from you

  • Proven track record of managing high performing Agile software engineering teams in a fast-changing environment, including line management of the team members.
  • Inspire engineers throughout the organisation, providing deep expertise, thought leadership, expert advice and guidance to resolve specific challenges. Mentor and coach engineers across dunnhumby’s Media group
  • Designing and architecting enterprise applications based on microservices.
  • Solid fullstack programming experience in both frontend technologies using JavaScript/React and backend technologies using .NET/C#. Experience on Google Cloud is an advantage.
  • Lead exciting and complex end-to-end projects and ensure Service Level Agreements are delivered on. Define and develop solutions to complex problems that arise ensuring stadards are fully met and best practice is adhered to.
  • Lead on new solutions. Gather input, feedback and requirements from key stakeholders within Engineering and Product Management and define the platform/ component roadmap for specific projects. Influence the team software architecture as required.
  • Hands-on experience - develop and deploy complex applications, components, software, platforms or services that are used at scale and contribute to significant performance or business value (e.g. core components that are used across teams, POCs,…).
  • Create clear standards, tools and technical guidelines in line with the department’s strategy, policies and client obligations.
  • Manage internal and external technical stakeholders including product owners, commercial and business stakeholders and product consumers.
  • Knowledge of functional & non-functional testing and deployment methods from conception to production.
  • Manage risk effectively, provide visible and consistent leadership on Values and Code of Business Conduct and act where you see issues. Protect our team by ensuring they have the skills and training needed.
  • Senior experience, designing and architecting enterprise applications based on microservices. Experience using GCP or other cloud platforms, .NET Core, React JS Docker, k8s.
