Staff Product Designer, Design Systems
Flex is a growth-stage, NYC headquartered FinTech company that is creating the best rent payment experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2024 and paying rent on time is expensive, inflexible, and difficult. We’re here to change that! Flex enables our users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances and budget. Our mission is to empower as many renters as possible with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we are looking for motivated individuals to help us keep our mission growing. Will you be a part of the team?
About the role
As a Staff Product Designer who owns our Design Systems at Flex, you'll own the foundational tool that is used by our design and engineering teams to scale delivering a consistent, usable, and accessible product experience across platforms. You'll collaborate with our design team, engineers, and product managers to ensure we are crafting exceptional experiences for our diverse community of customers who are underserved by existing financial products. Beyond owning our design system, you may also step in to own specific product initiatives. You’ll get to leverage your expertise in every stage of product development—from conceptualizing ideas to ensuring design excellence through launch—guiding the creation of our core consumer experience. Your comprehensive skills in visual & interaction design, and product and design strategy, will drive success and innovation.
This is a hybrid position with on-site expectations of 3 days per week in our New York Headquarters. For candidates outside of the NY/NJ area, you may be eligible for our relocation assistance program.
What you’ll do
- Evolve, expand and maintain our design system, and collaborate with engineering and designers to ensure it is being applied consistently across our product ecosystem
- Lead design efforts for critical consumer-facing fintech products and features
- Own the design process from beginning to end, leading discovery, ideation, wireframing, testing, visual design, and implementation
- Craft innovative solutions for product opportunities that have little or no precedent in the existing market
- Solicit feedback from and provide feedback to designers and collaborators in order to maintain quality and consistency in our work
- Collaborate closely with other designers, product managers, software engineers and stakeholders to ensure your vision becomes a reality
Key qualifications
- 8+ years experience designing and shipping software solutions for consumer-facing digital experiences
- 3+ years developing and maintaining a design system
- Ability to champion adoption of our design system, and a track record of integrating it into the product development and engineering processes
- Comfort documenting and explaining your process and rationale behind design decisions, including leveraging data to inform decision-making
- Demonstrated aptitude for getting things done to make your team successful – wearing several different hats when necessary
- Native mobile application experience (iOS and Android)
- Deep knowledge of design software (though we formally use Figma as a team) and interactive prototyping software (Principle, Framer, or Origami)
- Comfort with ambiguous problems
- Motivation to be a self-starter
- Passion for financial products and improving people’s financial lives
- A portfolio of work detailing your contributions to shipped solutions
The salary compensation range for this role will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and Flex's internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks.
