About This Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural Design Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing structures to ensure safety, compliance, and optimal performance at a nuclear fuel cycle facility. This is a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in structural engineering to one of the most critical industries in energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, analyze, and evaluate structural components and systems for nuclear facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform structural analyses using advanced tools and methodologies to assess loads, stresses, and material performance under normal and extreme conditions.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, mechanical, and nuclear engineers, to integrate structural designs with other systems.
  • Ensure designs meet NRC, ASME, ANSI, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Review and approve designs, modifications, and construction plans prepared by contractors and vendors.
  • Support construction and commissioning activities, including inspections and resolving on-site technical issues.
  • Stay updated on advancements in structural engineering practices, materials, and nuclear industry trends.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or a related technical field). 
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., STAAD, ANSYS, SAP2000).
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NRC requirements).
  • Familiarity with dynamic and seismic analysis methods for nuclear applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills for preparing technical documentation and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
  • Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or the ability to obtain one.
  • Experience working with reinforced concrete, steel structures, and seismic analysis.
  • Advanced degrees.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this role is $80,000-$175,000 annually. 

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. Please note that the stated salary range is an estimate and may be adjusted based on market conditions, business needs, or other factors. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
