Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal IT Engineer to lead the design, automation, integration, and improvement of IT systems across the organization. This role will serve as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert in multiple domains including endpoint engineering, network administration, systems integration and automation. The Principal IT Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of ID.me's enterprise IT environment.
The ideal candidate is passionate about scalable, secure, and automated solutions in a modern, cloud-native enterprise environment. You will collaborate closely with IT, Security, and Engineering teams to design and implement solutions that enhance system performance, user experience, and operational efficiency at scale.
This role is based out of our Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA offices and requires full-time in-office attendance.
Role Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain endpoint management and configuration systems, including modern device management platforms such as Jamf, Intune, and MaaS360.
- Manage and support corporate network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, VPN, and wireless networks, ensuring reliability and security across all office and remote environments.
- Design and implement systems integrations between SaaS platforms, identity providers (e.g., Okta), and internal applications.
- Develop compliance and configuration baselines for Windows, macOS, and network systems, ensuring policy enforcement and alignment with security benchmarks.
- Collaborate with Security, GRC, and Engineering teams to enforce secure configurations and remediate vulnerabilities across infrastructure and endpoint fleets.
- Evaluate, recommend, and integrate new technologies to streamline IT operations, improve security posture, and enhance system observability.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues spanning endpoints, networks, and system integrations.
- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and architectural diagrams.
- Drive incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews for IT infrastructure and endpoint systems.
- Implement solutions using scripting and programming languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Go.
- Serve as a technical lead and mentor to other engineers and administrators within the IT team.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in IT or relevant technical sector roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
- Expert-level proficiency designing and maintaining software deployment and installation frameworks.
- Experience designing endpoint configuration aligned to security frameworks in production environments.
- Expertise in designing and implementing secure, identity-aware, access strategies.
- Proven ability automating complex processes in an enterprise environment.
Preferred Qualifications
The qualifications below are ideal, but not all are required. We encourage candidates to apply if they satisfy some, but not all of these qualifications.
- Experience managing and securing remote-first, cloud-native enterprise environments.
- Hands-on experience utilizing Git-based version control.
- Proven track record of diagnosing and resolving complex endpoint-related technical issues in large-scale environments.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with telemetry/monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog, Splunk, Kandji Insights).
- Familiarity with Okta or similar identity providers.
- Expertise in enterprise network infrastructure (switches, firewalls, VPN, wireless).
- Contributions to internal knowledge bases, documentation systems, or open-source projects.
- Industry certifications.

The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.

Pay Range
$163,000 - $195,584 USD
ID.me is a full-time, in-office culture. Unless a specific job description explicitly states otherwise, all roles are on-site five days per week at one of our offices in McLean, VA; Mountain View, CA; New York City, NY; or Tampa, FL.
